teaching your cocker to read!!
« on: October 21, 2006, 12:51:40 PM »
Has anyone else seen the articles in this months doggy mags - about how to teach your dog to read :005:
I think I'm going to give it a go - but not sure where to start

They suggest one word at a time, but Ben's far to clever for that  ;)
I can't decide whether to start with one of the classics like Hound of the Baskervilles or something more practical like the washing machine manual so I get some help round here - what do you suggest!!

Oh I 'd definately try him on the classics. Get his interest first. Here are a few more suggestions for you:

The Voyage of the Beagle by Charles Darwin, Flauberts Madame Boneary -or how about Dickens' David Cockerfield?
If he's an expert hole digger then he might also enjoy Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

You could then perhaps let him progress onto Dog Training books. He could take them off to his basket and read them in a quiet moment and save you all that hard work. Yup - I think DIY training methods are the way to go.

oh my first would be to give ellie the dog training books.she is hitting her terrible teens with a vengeance(sp).today she stole a whole cabbage and shredded it all over the kitchen floor.she ate the crunchy stalks but the leafy bits were everywhere.i was oblivious to this and i was only in the next room.paddy was trying to snitch on her but i ignored him.next time he seems to be yapping for no reason i will get up and investigate :D

How about some cookery books for Ellie?

The only book Ben has ever chewed was the Gwen Bailey one  :005:  I wish he'd just read it!
