If it was around here it would be "peasants" :005: I quite fancy strutting round with a gun shouting "oye off my land"
The very best of luck Lynne I'm sure she will be a super star and do you proud! Enjoy your day.

Fantastic, Ellie is going to love, love, love it i'm sure!! Nothing quite like it.
As Cazzie said, what will you be shooting? I thought it was only rabbits this time of year.
Rabbits are the hardest with Wherry as she sill wants to go chasing after them >:D
I'm sure you'll get home tomorrow one muddy dog and one proud mum! :luv:

Pigeons can be shot, I love pigeon :luv:

::) Of course, I stand corrected ph34r
Oh and Lyn, may be obvious but somehow I always manage to forget; plastic and/or blanket to cover the car seat if you're driving, towels and treats for Ellie and baby wipes for you.

Good luck Lyn and Ellie. We took Melody to our local Gamefair for the first time at the weekend and she fell asleep whilst we watched the clay pigeon shooting. 20-odd guns going off at the same time and I was worried she'd hate it - quite the opposite infact ::) :005:
Enjoy yourselves tomorrow ;)
-
Good luck!!! Have fun!!

yeah, but pigeon shooting is not very dog friendly unless your dog is really well trained and will sit still for hours, and certainly not a group sport - fomr someone who spent 4 hours sitting in a hollowed out tree a few weeks ago
-
its wabbits :005: not sure yet if i'll manage to even get the nerve to shoot myself but i'll give it a try. she has come into her own these past few months but i never mentioned it before in case it was a fleeting fancy of hers. the clay shoot a few weeks back was for me to see how she reacted to the gun up close. i have to say she did fine but i jumped out of my skin a few times :005: i may take the camera and just shoot the others and ellie. i am terrified of rabbits back legs, they totaly freak me out. ellie has shown recently her ability to retrieve with next to no training from me except for the back garden where we have spent many hours throwing for her to pick up. the back bit of the garden is wild and we have hidden dummies and told her to go seek and pick up which she has about a 90% success rate with but i'm not expecting to much of her tomorow coz it will be her first time in a field and picking up fresh kill. we have to start somewhere and i thought this sounded ideal when we were invited. tbh i'm more worried about how i am going to react. i have a working gun dog and feel i should be doing something to pay her back for all the joy she gives me. if she does enjoy herself then i will be undertaking some serious training with her. there is a training club over the other side of town that trains the dogs and the owners.

good luck am sure you'll have a great time, be careful though my friend shot his own dog by accident doing rabbits, now they lamp and he goes back after everything is put away to pick up.

My Labs do the job nicely, not for the innexperienced cocker like sweepie at the mo ;)

If they shot their dog they should not have a gun in their hand :o

omg that has freaked me out. luckily the ladies i'm going to be with have never had an accident. 4 have done it many times and the other has only recently started going.
i am starting to half look forward to it.
-
Go and enjoy it, it will be great fun ;)
-
sadly accidents do happen they are an experienced and careful shot but the dogs inexperience and over excitement got the better of it and it ran in just as my friend took the shot, no real harm done but their training went back months. Cockers do have a habit of bouncing...

Ditto here, the only one of mine who would be ok to take out shooting anything at the moment is Tilly. Definitely too much too soon for Alfie or Rodaidh.
Anyway I hope you enjoy it Lyn and don't have to finish off any bunnies by hand ;) :005:
-
:o oh i am NOT doing that. not sure if i want to go now ::) getting a sick feeling in my stomach.

Have a lovely day Lyn and Ellie

Its one of the things you have to deal with if you are out at a shoot when working a dog. If your dog retrieves anything that is injured you have to dispatch it ;)

Dobbie will pigeon shoot with Mr CS but with me he is far too fidgeting and annoying unless he can sit on my knee, which isnt very practical :005:

At least you didn't go. I showed up to watch a dog show......
a week early ph34r :005:
-
if we're dishing dirt I turned up to a wedding a week early and then a funeral a week late :luv: :luv:
-
How did it go?
-
i didn't go  :embarassed:
they were here saturday afternoon trying to get me to go lamping with them saturday night. i asked if it was illegal and when told it was i said i wasn't going. they were trying to egg me on and mentioned they often shot deer :o :'( i decided there and then that hunting just wasn't my thing, even if deer steaks are lovely to bbq :o plus one of the ladies hubby has a working cocker and the lady kept on about putting him to ellie >:D i just thought it odd i was being invited at about the time my girl is due in season. guess i'll be sticking to my townie friends from now on but i am still tempted to take ellie gundog training.
-
Lamping is not illegal - unless they are doing it on private land without permission  Rabbits are specifically excluded from the "hunting with dogs" legislation........and they are shot, anyway
Deer is a different matter, though - I think you need a license, but I'm not really sure........who the heck do they get to butcher the meat??
-
Your not allowed to lamp deer at night, but you can rabbits and foxes. they sound a bit dodgy to me :-\
-
they may be poaching.
-
They certainly don't sound like legitimate folk. Lamping is legal for rabbits and foxes. Not for deer
-
i asked if the lamping was legal and they said no, because they were out for deer. i didn't ask who would sort out the dead deer rachel i was a bit miffed at the time. when they said that deer was lovely off the bbq i felt a bit sick. i am asuming they were poaching and although the local farmers may welcome them with open arms for the shooting of rabbits i find nothing to excuse them wanting to shoot deer. maybe when ellie gets her gundog training properly i will look for a decent shoot and have a go but i am not doing anything that incudes shooting deer. end of story. i would rather shoot myself. i used to see them everyday when i did the school transport and i looked forward to seeing them. felt cheated if i didn't catch a glimpse so its just not my idea of fun.
-
They are definitely poaching then Lyn
-
oh lyn what a pity, poaching is a dreadful thing to do it doesn't do anyone any favours >:( There are lots of opportunities to go beating or to do some rabbiting properly its not worth going out with idiots. Maybe we can help you find something a little closer??
-
Oh dear :-\ What are you going to do now you know about it, Lyn?
How well do you know them? Would you be ruining a friendship if you reported them for what they are doing?
-
rachel i would report them in the blink of an eye if i knew where they did it. i foolishly didn't think to ask mainly because i don't drive and would have been getting a lift. i keep thinking about the poor deer too. they are my daughters best friends relatives so it would cause a bit of trouble but tbh i'm not bothered about that. maybe i will find out where they go in a sly roundabout way and then report it. i will give it a go.
-
What a shame Lyn, I hope you don't find yourself put off in the future. :-\
-
Really sorry to hear this Lyn :-\ I hope you can maybe find some above board shooting soon. I have no problem with deer being shot and it is indeed a very nice meat but it has to be done legally.
