Coral is really coming on - Saturday last weekend saw her on a live training day in North Wales followed by an advanced retrieving training day on the Sunday.
Friday I was at Checkley Wood to help with the novice retriever trial - Coral came with me and provoked lots of comments at the end of the day - nice stamp of a cocker!
Saturday saw me at the Open retriever trial which I had to leave early due to an injury sustained chasing after a small
Black cocker earlier this year! Someone I know quite well and respect as a gundog trainer won the trial so I wish I’d stayed..... not least as Coral and I went dogging-in in the afternoon. She was brilliant, only flushing one bird (she did chase it but came back quickly which is a huge step forward especially as the wood is surrounded by sheep!) We moved into a different section of the wood and worked towards the pen.
All done - back home for well earned rest. Coral was pretty well nettled so had a piriton and was sparko by 9pm (as was I!). Sunday her right eye has closed up - put it down to nettles and gave her another piriton.
This morning it was obvious more was going on with eye as it was very cloudy. Trip to the vet and yes, she has a puncture wound and infection in the eye. Its a real possibility she may lose the eye though to see her run round this evening in the wind you wouldn’t know anything was wrong!

I’m hoping a bit of the infamous COL well wishes will see the eye improve - will know more in the morning

Oh no poor Coral. Everything crossed that she makes a full recovery. xxxx

Oh poor Coral, lots of good thoughts being sent from over here for a positive outcome for you and coral x
-
oh no, we do not want to hear about these types of war wounds. Hope it sorts itself out :luv:
-
Thank you
Its always a worry when the Vet says they are concerned about the eye - she has a pretty big puncture wound visible to the eye, with the infection its very cloudy. She looked like a complete nutter running round in the half light and high winds earlier - ears flying, mouth open with the “cocker grin” and one eye very bright compared to the other!
Needless to say I am keeping my spirits up with the aide of the COL recommended large glass of wine
-
Oh heavens Jayne, poor Coral! Keeping fingers, paws and everything else crossed that it isn't that serious and that it will indeed heal up with no long lasting impairement to her sight!
Sending healing thoughts from this end too! Keep us posted!
:bigarmhug: to Coral!

Poor Coral, hope she makes a complete recovery.

Got everything crossed here for Coral x x

What a worry for you, and poor Coral. Keeping everything crossed for you. Xxx
-
Sounds nasty hope coral recovers quickly from it. I have said before that it amazes me how hardy cockers are considering the cover we put them in.
Ps
I was invited to shoot that trial at chekley but couldn't make it as it was short notice.

sending all my positive thoughts and healing thoughts to Coral

Do hope the little one gets better. Fingers and paws crossed for her.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes - it seems to be working. I’m told the vet is happy with progress overnight. She now has tablet painkillers and AB drops until Friday and a further assessment then.
IPS - will send you a PM later when I get chance, you missed out on a good day though not may birds were shot!

That’s so good to hear! Here’s hoping everything continues to improve. The power of COL is something to behold. :luv:

Not sure if this is the effect of metacam, the fire or my boot!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171018/2a2f9805480c4f54861e40179f620c68.heic)

As every spaniel worth their dinner knows - 'Any fool can be uncomfortable!'

:luv: Aaaw bless her. So relieved Coral is improving. You must have been very worried. Its amazing how resilient they are. Some more cosy time by the fire prescribed I think.

Coral was back to the vets this morning for a check up. The infection has cleared and the vet was able to see the retina for the first time. He's really pleased with how well she's recovered but she has now formed an ulcer at the site of the injury so on painkillers/ABs and eye lubricant until next Wednesday which is the next checkup.
He did say that she was very lucky the eye wasn't shattered and it's looking good to make an almost complete recovery. If I wasn't on call tonight I'd be having a large glass of something....it's been a very long week!
Thank you everyone for your well wishes
