Cat bringing gifts for puppy
« on: March 22, 2012, 10:13:40 AM »
This is old news for our household, but I wasn't member
Of COL when this happened and have wondered and did at
The time google to find if anyone else had experienced this.

When Flo was about 6 months old our lovely (then 5yr old)
Male Cat started bringing in gifts for her, at first it was cicadas
Which he would drop near her and try to show her how to hunt
It.  Then it moved on to mice which (much to my dismay) he
Would bring in and amongst many screeches for me and all they
Would hunt together, with Lu (the cat) pretty much standing back
And letting Flo do the finding and then he would bat the poor little
Mouse around a bit so Flo would get revved up to get involved.
It eventually moved to outdoors( after I would grab the mouse and
Chuck it in the garden, and they would hunt together, with Flo
Sniffing out and Lu making the kill.
I think it was Lu's way of showing authority and also maybe
Instinctively teaching the younger.
Has anyone else experienced this with an older cat and a puppy?

The only thing Monty has learnt from our cat Barney is to stay more than a paw's length away!! Wonderful story though, I always hoped our 2 would get on better, but Barney just seems to be above all that dog stuff!
