I am very over the moon/ecstatic/overexcited to report that Caoimhe won her very first trial of this season today - the Welsh Kennel Club Open - meaning that she is now a Field Trial Champion :cool4: :cool4: :cool4: :cool4: I spoke to Simon nearly 3 hours ago and I'm still shaking :lol2: He was driving back from the trial when we spoke and I was alternating between laughing and crying so he told me to phone him back tomorrow - or whenever I'd calmed down ph34r - for a proper report. I owe him such a massive debt of gratitude for everything that he's done with her, he's the best dog trainer and handler I know and she is such an amazing dog, truly one in a million and I am so incredibly lucky to have her, I can't describe how proud I am of her. I'm on cloud 99 and may not come down for some time! Best go and book that hotel at Sandringham for January, I hadn't wanted to do it until she qualified in case I jinxed her :shades: :005:

-
Thrilled to bits for you Nic - hope you're celebrating in a way that befits an occasion such as this :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:
A superb achievement for both yourself & Simon & is the perfect reward for all the hard work you put into such a special little girl :luv: :clapping:
You stay on cloud 9 as long as you like ...... it must be an awesome feeling :bigarmhug: ...but I bet little Caoimhe is taking it all in her stride & wondering what all the fuss is about :005:
I have a feeling there might be a rather large 'Go Coaimhe' contingent at Sandrigham ....... probably best to keep the 'whooping' to a minimum I suspect :P :011:

Thank you everyone, I'm absolutely over the moon although in a way it hasn't really sunk in yet; I've been thinking about her getting to this stage for such a long time it's a bit unreal. Simon's much more pragmatic about it than I am, he kept telling me that she'd do it, but then he's owned a lot more champions than I have :lol2: The achievement is all his, I'm just very proud of her and very grateful to him; he and his wife Julie have been nothing but incredibly kind and supportive over the last 3 years.

I'll be skulking at the back again so that she doesn't see or smell me and get distracted and when she's actually running I'll be pacing anxiously around at the back :lol2: Hopefully she'll have better luck this time around but running at the Champs is just the cherry on the icing on the cake; it'd be great if she did well but getting to FTCh was what I really wanted, I could retire her tomorrow and she'd have achieved everything you could possibly want from a trialling dog. It'll be lovely if there are people there to cheer her on though :D

The "team weevil" support team is packing their january bag already :bigarmhug:
I had no doubt ;) Just surprised it was on her FIRST run of the season.
Clever clever little girl :luv:
Congratulations to you both :clapping: :clapping:

In terms of kudos, yes - but you really should look at videos of how these dogs work ;)

Helen I have I think it is amazing, I really enjoy watching dogs reach their potential. I wasn't being glib, just trying to put it in a context I could relate to.

I just spoke to Simon again to get a better report on it and he said she's on really top form, she won on ice which means there was no run off at the end, she was the clear winner :D She had two very difficult runners, one on each of her runs, but she got both of them. She's on peak form and just did everything right, when the ground is right and the game is there then she always performs; she's so smart and so classy and Simon has brought her on to perfection after the pups. The full results are as follows:
1st Lovelight Garnet Glow of Rinagree (b) S.Tyers
2nd Frostfields Vermicelli of Lisburne J.Bailey
3rd Western Rosie (b) I.Openshaw
4th Woldtop Firecrest (b) W.Walker
COMs
Maesydderwen Saucey (b) S.Morgan
Lockslane Archibald D.Lee
She's going to be wound down a bit for a few weeks now as she's due in season in November so we want to bring that on and get it out of the way as quickly as possible. She's very regular with her seasons so hopefully he can get her back into full on training again in December and have her back on peak form for mid January. That's the plan anyway :lol2: The timing of this really couldn't have been better, it's amazing that she's won on her first run of the season anyway but it's also a relief as it takes the pressure off for the rest of the season; with her actual season being due in November it would have meant she'd miss a 3 week chunk out of the trials, the same thing happened last year and she missed 3 or 4 runs which was really frustrating, the FT season is relatively short and it's not easy to get runs so there's always an element of time pressure. Thank doG we don't need to worry about that now :D

Congratulations Nicola, Simon and Caoimhe. Absolutely brilliant achievement. I've watched a few videos on YouTube and wow, what a clever girl. Amazing watching these dogs excel at what they are bred to do.
-
Congratulations - that's amazing . do you have a link to the youtube clips, or is there something I can type in?
-
Congratulations and well done ;)
-
Many congratulations!

Well done Caoimhe (how do you pronounce that?) :clapping: I think this is what one of my colleagues got with one of her welsh springers - I watched her being awarded it at Crufts in March by the Duke of something or other. Is that the one? Will you and Caoimhe be presented with yours at Crufts?
-
That's great, it sounds like you will be stuck on your cloud for a while yet, and rightly so.
-
Well done, a fantastic achievement :clapping: :clapping: :D

It's pronounced keeva (not the most obvious I know :005:). No that's not the same thing, field trial dogs (spaniels anyway, and some HPRs) aren't allowed at Crufts because of the docking regulations. There's an award at the end of the actual trial when the organisers/judges announce the placings and give out the prizes/trophies/certificates from the gundog club holding the trial so she has a trophy from that and a certificate naming her as the winner. Once the club submits the results of the trial to the Kennel Club (and she does a water retrieve in front of 2 A panel judges which she did today at a novice trial Simon was running another dog in) they then send out the official certificate naming her as a Field Trial Champion. She already has one naming her as an Open trial winner. I'm not sure what your friend's dog got, perhaps a show gundog working certificate or maybe she won something in the Gamekeeper's Ring. I think there are a few awards that show dogs can go for now which are non-competitive but show that they have working ability.

Congratulations!!! The title FTCH is what every trialling person dreams of for their dog but only very, very few ever achieve. So very well done to you, Caoimhe and Simon. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
-
Many congrats to you , your dog and the handler, that is something us mere mortals can only dream of achieving.
-
Big well done Nicola, Simon and Caoimhe. Hope she gets in and out of season ok, ready for action in the Champ's. Once again well done a brilliant achievement. :clapping:

Only just seen this! Huge congratulations to you Nicola, Simon and of course the very talented Caoimhe :luv:
-
So do you think you will enter a field trial yourself Nicola? I suppose its the next step for you now... ;)
-
Only just seen this post... saw it and congratulated you on Facebook though!
MASSIVE congratulations to you all :D :D :luv: must be an amazing feeling! Xxx
-
Not be on the forum much this week and only just seen this - well done!!!!

Is it? Not with Caoimhe, she's a bit overqualified for novice trials now. The next step is the Championships then at some stage keeping a pup and seeing how it goes but I'm still quite enjoying this experience for now :shades:
-
Thanks again everyone, I'm still over the moon :D She's on the news page on Simon's website now...

At the Welsh Kennel Club held at Glasfryn under Judges David Pope and Ralph Edwards, Kieva ran an excellent trial to win on ice. In both runs she made easy work of very strong runners in difficult conditions as well as putting together determined hunting on heavy ground. This being her first run of this season makes her up to Ftch and qualifies for the Championship in January.
Her name is spelled there as it's pronounced :lol2:
-
Well done to all involved. :cool4: :cool4:
Sandringham? got your afternoon T booked with HerMaj yet ;)
-
well done and in Wales at that
-
A bit late but I did see this on FB. Absolutely brilliant news. So pleased for you all, a huge achievement and so well deserved. Lxx
-
Wow! massive congratulations to you and the lovely Caoimhe :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
-
Absolutely fantastic news, you must be soooooooooooo proud
-
Yes I still am :D She's drawn number 24 out of (so far) 32 qualifiers for the Championships which is good as she tends to be better going later. She came into season like clockwork as she always does so that's out of the way and she's back in training so we're just counting down the days now, I'm looking forward to it and dreading it in equal measure!
-
Just caught up with this. Congratulations on such a great achievement. Caoimhe is a star :shades: :luv:
Hope she continues to do well and make you proud.
-
What an amazing achievement. The hours and hours and HOURS of training it takes to reach this level, you deserve to be sooo proud.

Even though you know what I'll be like when we're there and you have to try to keep me relatively calm, you're a trooper :shades: :005:
Thanks again everyone, I have a few photos of her which I'll post up when I get a chance :D

:lol2: It will all be fine :luv: I am prepared for the stealth tactics so Caoimhe doesn't realise you're in the vicinity and this year I will charge my camera and your camera. I will have enough socks so my feet don't freeze off (and I will hold your nose and pour sloe gin down your neck to calm you down :lol2:)

:lol2: You're a star! I don't think OH is going to be terribly helpful in this respect, once he sees what I'm like he'll probably pretend he doesn't know me :005:
