Ready for training yet???
« on: April 26, 2013, 09:20:04 PM »
Hi! Jasper is nearly 9 months old now, runs like the wind and loves fetching stuff, he pulls like a train though on the lead and his usually brilliant recall disappears out of the window when he sees a rabbit or any other bird etc... He is intelligent and always keen to learn, although he is sometimes very shouty around other dogs he rarely barks in the house... Only if someone knocks on the door or if Ruby steals his bone from him ( which he will normally do but not often because his mouth usually has a soft toy in it) .  I'm thinking that proper working spaniel training/gundog training would be great for him and me and/or OH... Can anyone recommend a traing club or group near Huntingdon, Peterborough/Cambridge...???  Or any other ideas?

Many thanks all

We started gun dog training at 7 months and at 15 months have Isla very well trained to.the whistle, no matter what the distraction, and considering she is a highly driven dog we are very proud of her. We still need to work on her steadiness, but for her age we are more than happy. Am so glad we started the training, but that hour we do per week still needs to be backed up by daily training. We found our trainer whilst out walking, but not sure about your area. Google t see what comes up and then do some homework to see if they are what you are looking for. Might be best to go along and see a session before you sign up to ensure the trainer is the right trainer for you. All trainers have different methods and it is important that you feel comfortable with them. Our trainer expects discipline but makes it crystal clear that no harsh methods are.used and that was important to us. Do your honework and it will be well worth it.
