If the defragmentation is still running then it will be very slow. You can't ruin a computer by defragmenting the disks, it's good practice to do this anyway.

He is a it consultant and it was fine but it is really slow. I dont want to trouble him. Is there any other reason. Ia impationt but takes ages to get coc ans pictures ie how long should it take. Thanks for replying Joan

Spyware and Adware are hidden applications that download themselves secretly from less reputable websites onto your computer and gathers information about your websurfing habits which it sends back to "base".  This software can cause pop-up adverts to appear on your screen, and will slow your system down significantly

I would mention it to your neighbour. Ask him if he did anything else apart from defragging which might make it run slower. It might save you a lot of time trying to sort it. It doesn't have to be due to Spyware or ad ware.

Do you mean your computer is slow when you're using the internet ie when you're using your browser (Internet Explorer/Firefox)? Just wondering as you say it takes ages for pictures to come up which sounds like you mean when you're surfing If so, it could be a problem with your ISP or it could be something simple like you need to empty your temporary internet files folder. If you use IE7, go to Tools, then Internet Options, then Browsing History, then you can delete your temporary internet files. Worth a try anyway

Funny you should post this now!  I'm just running a spyware scan as it's taken me all evening just to log on    It's 3% done and taken 17 mins so far!  I'll leave it running all night!

I have no answer to your question as I have the same problem.  I'm seriously thinking about getting myself a laptop at the same time as I get my daughter one - that way I'll know that mine doesn't get messed up

Thanks for all your replys and have been into tools and got rid a lot of form filling tex and I think it a loTquicker now as it seemed to log to col a lot quicker tonight.JOAN

I would get a really good security programme if you haven't already too.  The only sure way to not fall prey to spyware or ad ware is never to download from anywhere but reputable sites
