I'm no computer expert but I think that often even if you delete files they are usually still recoverable from the hard disk (I think that's how they catch a lot of folk who've been saving dodgy stuff on their computers, even if they delete it it can still be recovered). If you have a computer shop near you I'd give them a ring tomorrow for advice and they should be able to tell you how to recover the photos or do it for you. Don't create any new files or anything until then though because afaik this may take up the space being used for your 'lost' files and then you really might lose them permanently.

What operating system do you use? If you google it along with 'recover deleted files' you might get some info as well...

Turn off, shut down and take it to PC world or something. You should always be able to go back to last system back-up. You'll lose whatever you've done since it but you will probably gain more.

I take it you are using windows XP ? if so, you can go to the system restore wizard to take you to an earlier date when the pics were there !

click on [start]  then select [search]

select [search computers or people]

select [ ? Info in help and support center]

In the search box input [system restore]

In  Help and Support Center select [Run System Restore Wizard]

This will take you through the procedure

Hope this helps Jann

If none of that works there is a company (I am sure there are several but I only know this one) called itsgonefunny.com or something and they can recover most stuff. On the radio the other day they said that really the only way to permanently  lose everything for sure is to take a drill bit to your hard drive! Not sure how much they charge or anything.
