Decent Anti virus
« on: May 21, 2009, 09:22:19 PM »
According to my computer reminder (and who am I to doubt it???) my Norton anti virus runs out in 2 days.
My son (aged 21) says it is what slows the computer down.
My other son (aged 13) says we don't need an anti virus  ph34r
I do my banking online and am terrified that we need decent cover.

Do I renew my Norton (at fairly big expense) or is there something else as good /better but cheaper?????
Thanks
Penny,   Dexter (cavalier x poodle), Alfie (Whippet cross)  and  Maximus the cocker spaniel!!

RIP my 2 most gorgeous cocker girls - Buffy and Harriet - both waiting for me at the bridge. Joined by my beloved Josie taken too soon and Suki aged 13 :(

We use AVG free edition and have had no problems. Type it into google and you should find it!

Definitely NOT Norton. Its expensive, really heavy on processing power and its not so great at finding viruses.

AVG free edition is all the anti virus you ever need.

I was just wondering the same thing as my Norton is about to run out too  ;)

Do I need to uninstall the Norton before installing the new one?

A free anti-virus prog sounds good to me  :D

Norton is a pain to get rid off - can't remember where but think it was on here someone pointed us in the right direction - I'll have a search later and see if I can find it.

Best thing we ever did was to get rid of Norton

We went for one you still have to pay for but for 4 computers for 3 years it was less than 1 year for 1 comouter with norton

In answer to your question - it'll be in the info I'll find for you later (OH did it and he has just gone out with Fern so can't ask him)

I removed Norton last year and had to go onto their site to download a removal tool which appeared to do the trick. Downloaded AVG and had no problems at all.

Avast is brilliant.  I changed from AVG because of the problems with their server.  Quite often it would not update because of server problems.  Nothing wrong with AVG as a product, just the update problems.  I have had Avast for about six weeks now and it just updates quietly - apart from the American voice that tells me it has updated.

We use BitDefender anti-virus. It came highly recommended from a friend and really is good

AVG here too, free version, plus Windows Defender is always running in the background, so far so good.
