Dog or a bitch?
« on: March 02, 2004, 07:53:49 AM »
We are currently looking for a cocker spaniel and would appreciate any pro's and con's pointer's as to which sex may suit our neads. We have 2 boys ages 3 and 6.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards

It all comes down to personal preference in the end Dean  It's a subject that has come up before so you might find this past thread helpful:http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/forum/viewt...topic.php?t=458

This might sound a bit thick, but do you mean 2 boys as in children of 2 dogs, I,ve taken it as dogs

I think he means the children are boys

As Jane has said it really is personal preference as to whether you have a bitch or dog puppy.  I personally prefer boys (dogs) and have three no seasons to worry about or hormonal changes, very loving and gentle, quite obedient when the mood takes them.

I have to say when we started looking for a puppy a couple of years ago we wanted a bitch, but after reviewing all the threads on here decided that there were few differences it was more down to the individual pup. we got our boy last year, and wouldn't be with out him!

Thanks for the replies to my question on dog or a bitch.
I have tended to give the choice to my wife and are going to Sheffield on Friday to look at 2 week old blue roan bitch.
The breeder has held it for us and cant wait.
PS this forum seems the place to be for new and ressurected cocker owners.

Thanks

Hope you mean you can't wait to see the puppy rather than the breeder can't wait to sell it to you Dean  It's unusual for good breeders to allow visitors when a litter is so young so don't be surprised if there is not much to see - 2 week old puppies do very little other than sleep and feed and will possibly not even have their eyes open yet.

Good luck anyway :)

I appreciated the comment about the fact that a good breeder does not usually allow visitors to pups 2 weeks old. However as this breeder has been recommended by a few district clubs and has also stipulated that all we can do is look and not handle seems to reassure me. It also gives us the chance to pay a deposit on this girl ( hopefully ). Thanks again and appreciate your forum.

Kind regards

Dean

PS Our 2 children ( the boys ) see, to think Pippin is a good name!
Their 1st choice was Sadie as this was the name of my wives previous bitch. ( a few years ago mind )
