Working/ show confusion anyone?
« on: April 03, 2012, 08:18:34 PM »
Does anyones cocker get mistaken for show/working when he or she is he opposite? Indie is a show, but somehow sometimes gets mistaken for a working cocker when wet- odd seeing how different the two strains are (both are gorgeous obviously I just dont see how the two can be confused!) just wonderig if anyone else had any experience of this?

All the time ...  Alf is a show cocker and all show in his pedigree but, even to me looks like he has some worker in him = what do you think?

We were on  walk the other week and I heard this lady saying to her husband `Oh look a spaniel with long ears` (Cupar is a show type)
We have often been asked what kind of spaniel he is. It never ceases to amaze me how many people dont know there are different types.

Loads of people ask if Willow is a springer, not even the right colour to be one never mind her body shape, I had someone on holiday last year say to me she loved our dog and then added, "obviously a cross breed" at which point I wanted to smack her one!!!! Also due to her coloring a few people have asked if she is a duck toller..... Grrrr... sometimes I want to put a sign on her back to say what she is  :-\

people always have to ask about Freya as shes "obviously not a cocker"  >:( shes usually a cavalier or cross breed  :P When I tell them she is a working cocker they tend to go "oh right...." and then leave!

It's not as if working Cockers are particularly unknown as a breed? It's shocking 'dog' people aren't aware of them! And then have the bottle to say 'obviously not a cocker' the cheek!

Glad indie and I aren't on our own though!

Thank you all .....  a little  >:D  sometime, well most actually.

I guess its because George, our previous Cocker, was more, how should I say in a nice way - round.

We often get asked if Wispy is a springer.

I know he's tall for a working cocker, but come on doggy peeps, how many chocolate roan springers have you seen?  :005:

At an agility show this weekend I was asked if he was a spocker  :fear2:

People often think that Jess has some cavvie in the mix, it seems to be the eyebrows that cause the confusion.  Because, you know, cockers don't come in that colour.   ph34r   Either that, or else she is a small springer, because of course she is too big to be a cocker.   :005:  (Nope, 13kg spot on for breed standard.)

She's actually got a fair bit of working cocker in her pedigree, but I don't think anyone's ever mistaken her for a worker.
