Agility & Activity Register question
« on: February 13, 2010, 10:12:24 AM »
This may be a silly question  ph34r

Lewis wants to do agility with Jade eventually, as she is on the the KC breed register i know she doesn't need to go on the activity register  as well to be able to do agility. But If we took the decision and have her spayed i know she would lose the her eligibility to go in the show ring again but would that also mean she lost her eligibility for agility also. Thus then having to go on the activity register (that's if spayed dogs can go on the activity register that is ).  Hope that make sense. I have emailed the KC but so far heard nothing back from them   >:(

Spayed bitches don't lose their eligibility to be shown in the breed rings - all the KC ask for is notification that a dog has been neutered using the form on their website & then you can carry on showing as normal (Here's the form in PDF format: http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/download/394/neutereddogsform.pdf)

I don't imagine neutering will affect entering agility competitions at all but am sure the KC will confirm this for you (eventually :D)

Oh thanks Jane

I was under the impression that there had to be a medical reason for the spay not that you just don't intend to ever breed.

Spaying isn't an issue at all in Agility. All our dogs that we train and compete are spayed.  KC should be fine, but if you want to compete in UKA you will need to register with them separately. :shades:

Many dogs who do agility are also rescue dogs as well and have been neutered as part of the adoption so it can't be a problem

To compete at KC shows the only stipulation is that dogs are registered with KC either on breed or activity register - as youir dog is regsitered on the breed register you do not need to register on activity - spaying makes no difference to their registratiion on breed register!
