Working Trials TD win for a cocker!
« on: March 21, 2011, 06:46:17 PM »
As you may or may not know, not many folks try and do working trials with a cocker as once they have qualified UDex, the dog has to do the full 6ft scale and 9ft long jump. Some hardy souls have gone on, and yesterday a working cocker won the TD open stake at Iceni gaining a fabulous 213 points out of 220.

Fab piccy of him here

well done Rueben!

That's great  :D

I've just had a look on the working trials world website and the Kennel Club link from there to educate myself a bit about a dog sport I'd barely heard of before this and thought was only done by German Shepherds and similar. Very interesting.

Oh wow!  That's brilliant!  I always fancied working trials but as soon as I realised it was a 6ft scale no matter what size the dog I gave up on the idea!

I'm pretty sure none of my midget cockers could scale a 6 foot fence, and quite frankly I'd rather they didn't or they'd be out of the garden in a flash!  :005:

You'd be ok in the lower stakes as the scale can be lowered.

That's excellent news!  Many years ago when I had my chocolate working cocker we or rather he gained his UD award but he wasn't big enough to tackle to full size jumps so we never progressed any further.  He loved tracking & it's something I'd like to do again if the opportunity arises.

Brilliant! He does look proud!  :D

I used to do Working Trials training with my Sophie, my Collie and Penny my JRT x Lab. The collie used to do all the scales/long jumps etc and the X-breed used to complete all the scent tests, together they made a great team  :005: :luv: Penny was too small to do the large agility stuff but could find a needle in a haystack, Sophie was hopless at finding anything (even if right under her nose) but had no fear in throwing herself over the scale etc!  :005: :luv:
