Great!  As soon as they publish the layout I'll get in touch although it makes sense to aim for the scurry area?

Definitely!  Last year Pearl was just 5 months old and had a fabulous time with all the attention she got :D  There is normally an area with show dogs; mostly working breeds but also some rare breeds...... :luv:  plus the scurry area for the working dogs.

It can be quite loud in areas [clay pigeon shooting and some of the displays have "big bangs"] it was brilliant for socialising Pearl, not only in crowds but bonfire night just wasn't an issue and since then we've been up to Doveridge a number of times and she doesn't seem to notice the guns :D

Oh! and the shopping is pretty good too....dog coats, leads, fleeces, grooming kit you name it :005:

Hope to see you there,

Jx

This just happens to be on at the same time that we are driving down to Kent for the show the following weekend. We might have to incorporate it into our holiday plan. Thanks for mentioning it.

no map published on the site yet - http://www.countrymanfairs.co.uk/midland-game-fair (http://www.countrymanfairs.co.uk/midland-game-fair)

apparently its the largest gundog prize fund in the world!

Will keep looking for a map; failing that suggest we meet by the scurry area in the afternoon?  say 2pm.....let me know if the time works or if you prefer an am meet.....

It's also the last Countryman Fair in the season - usually one or two bargains to be had :D

Thanks Pat for highlighting the thread again - thought it was time I popped in an update.

Looks as though the website won't be publishing a map.  I'm pretty sure it will be a similar layout to previous years:

entrance area leads onto the main arena which has shopping on 3 sides, plus the working dog marquee and craft marquees.
to the right is clay pigeon shooting, horses, smaller show ring and a bit more shopping
to the left is the house, via a gun dog display [area with loud bangs at random times] - main facilities and beer tent etc  :shades:
and in the upper area [other side of the house] is the gun dog area and falconry village plus scurry area for competitions

I'm pretty sure there will be archery somewhere too!

Trade stalls seem to be majoring on wet weather clothing, guns, fishing kit, food, alcohol, crafts, antiques, hearing aids and shopping for dogs [inc Equafleece]   :005:  Last year it took Sally and myself 3 hours just to walk round the shopping area....missing out the fishing ;) but then we did have a serious shoppoing list :lol2:

Where would everyone like to meet?  Is there a better time to meet up?

Hope to see you there,

Jayne

Sounds like lots of COL's and pups will be at the show on Satuday!  way hey!

Can I suggest that we have a couple of meet times and points?  say 12.30 on the lawn area, outside the beer tent, by the house and 3pm by the scurries?  Unless anyone has a better idea for times/locations?

Hope to see you there,

Jx

Well Andrea seems to spend plenty of money when we have been in the last couple of years. Hoping now that there are no more new wellies, clothes etc on display. I honestly thought that when our lads had grown up that was the end of the designer label, Nike Adidas etc. Now its  Andrea with Aigle, Barbour etc (can't be seen to let the dogs down when she is on a shoot with her appearance ). We also definately have no more room in the house for dog leads, toys, dummies etc etc.

We're going with our little boy, he'll be 13 weeks old by the and I figure this would be great for socialising him and getting him used t lots of new things.   Beside which I also only live 10 minutes from Weston so it would be rude not to  :005:

Would just like to say thank you. Andrea went on that site last night and has just ordered a Barbour Calgary jacket (how many jackets can one woman wear). Had the usual its my birthday in 3 weeks, it was in the clearance (a whole £30 off), only one left and it happens to be in my size (it must be a sign). One consolation was they did not have the gloves she wanted in her size. Why could it not of been the other way round (but dont fret Andrea has informed me that there are plenty of stalls for her to find a pair next week. Oh joy).

It's nothing exciting I'm afraid....just a good old fashioned British Mill and Clothing manufacturer :D  I saw their coats at the show last year, came home and contacted them direct about sizes and length [I'm not very tall!] and they offered to make a coat for me, for no extra cost..... I call it my inheritance piece and my two cousins are still in-fighting over who gets it!!  [green tartan with pink and aqua stripes and a pink lining :005:]

I am working on the OH to take us to this one as Belvoir got cancelled - I have been stressing the Fishing & Shooting - rather than the dog accessories tho! LOL  And.... as it was my birthday yesterday and I ended up at Wembley for the England V Ukraine Football at Wembley - I figure he owes me!

Trouble is we are at the Goodwood Revival on Friday - so it will be an expensive weekend!

If we come we will probably bring the motorhome and the doglets - so I'll keep watching for meet-ups etc and give you all due warning if the 3 terrors are going to be attending!

Hi sorry for the late reply this evening...

Just to confirm the suggested meet times and locations:

Thanks SteveB for reminding me of the layout - too much red wine sampling for another thread on COL to blame ;)

I appreciate these are the times and locations I've put forward but I guess at somepoint [as SteveB has suggested] we should firm up arrangements so we all know where/when etc...I have tried to consider those travelling big distances to get here and anyone wanting to head off early!

The gates open at 8.30 am and close at 7pm - if anyone would like a later meet can I suggest the coffee area at the entrance gate, by the main arena, at 5pm, might be a good place for a last catch up before heading home :D

Hope everyone has safe journeys to the event - good luck if you are competing in the morning!

See you on Saturday,

Sorry to be missing this event but I have the pelasure of running the Great North Run on Sunday instead.  Hope you all have a fab time and enjoy the scurries, my two love them
 Hope your run goes well,

Jayne

There's a demo area to the side of the main arena - between the working dog pavillion and the beer tent ;) but in previous years the main scurry area for competition has been on the top field, past the main house and at the far side of the arena where they display falconry etc... there are usually 3-4 scurries [is that the right plural??] for the different classses as there are so many competitors!

'tis rather a big Game Fair, much bigger than Chatsworth or Tatton which are the only other two I've been too!

Will look out for you on Saturday,

J

Last year if I remember correctly (its an age thing) there were 7 scurries a working test and the Mitsubushi final. The Rockwood display team is also there which our friend is in with her Munsterlander. Andrea used to be part of the team with our GSD but Cockers have some how taken over all our time.

I'm sure you are right - I started typing half a dozen but wasn't sure so played it safe ;)

so...."3pm by the scurry area" - any thoughts on a more precise location given the size of the area?

Post by: SteveB on September 13, 2012, 07:53:19 PM
again with my memory it was a long corridor as the scurries were either side and a car park at the bottom of it. The Mitsubushi was being held in an arena in the middle of the dog village alongside a food area. The corridor is only narrow so we will no doubt see each other there. It will be easy to find me I will be the one holding either Tia doing a kangaroo impression or Lulu going demented every time the launcher goes off. Dont know what it is with our two soon as they see and hear scurries they change from calm obedient butter would not melt in their mouths to demented fools

I will be heading down on Saturday with Sydney and Muswell, looking for a new to me (2nd hand) under and over. Think I will take them round one at a time as the two together will be mental if Syd's first outing on the lead is anything to go by.

 :D

The thread was started with purely selfish thought in mind - that it would be great to meet some of the "names" on here and your dogs......I have a lot of thank you's to say....plus could really do with some Muswell magic rubbing off on Pearly......I'm really looking forward to tomorrow!

What I'm really trying to say is that I didn't expect the size of the response to my first note but I'm thrilled so many people are coming to the Game Fair!

See you there!

Safe journeys,

Jx

Thought I'd better pop along this evening and check the layout really is as SteveB remembers [rather than my memory ;)] and it is.....but it's hoooge!  Far bigger than last year - the gates are normally half a field from the main car park, this evening they are right on the edge!!

And yes, the scurry area is directly behind the entrance gate - suggest the meet takes place more towards the top end of the scurries at the point it becomes the main arena area as the corridor may be a little narrow! [3pm]

Weather forecast looks good, so far, mostly sunny high 18' low 11' :D

The really important information is that the beer tent [one of many I'm told] is by the House :shades:

Big thanks to "Jimbo the Security" for letting me in to check....

Yes it was a great day and lovely to see so many col's!

There should also be some new members coming online after we kept going up to people with cockers who looked like they were waiting for somebody and asking them if they were on the COL meet!!

Over-tired, grumpy Miss J slept all the way through our friends bbq last night and is still asleep on the settee at 10am!

A fine day in prospect so we attended at Weston Park on Saturday but £34 entrance a bit eye watering to say the least.

We had hoped to meet some Colers but it was not to be. Plenty of Spaniels but none I recognised. He did meet a sweet little four month old Orange roan puppy but he was only half the size of our woolly mammoth.

So many dogs and all seemingly getting on well together, an excellent training outing for young William, with the crowds and noise.

William passed an important test, sitting quietly at the picnic tables in a very crowded area, whilst we had lunch.

Might be able to risk him at the pub next. ;)

We were around the scurries at 3.0pm, but William was not very impressed.

Why is he doin’ that, I just couldn’t be asked.

Well I’m bored now can we go home.

Ooh what a shame we were only about 20 feet away from you!  All exhausted by this time, sitting on the floor at the end of that row next to the novice scurry.

Hope we can soon meet William - perhaps on 7th October at Cannock Chasethen a pub lunch ?

Pat and Jinley

Hello cliff, yes William is six months old and looking like a mini orange mamoth at the moment.

We did see quite a few choc workers, if you did see us I was wearing a Panama hat.

I can't believe we missed the colers, we were there for around four hours and I was looking out for likely candidates, I had the image of Jinley in particular pressed on my mind.

Yeah i though he looked familer in the pic, it was in the gundog section buy the main arena. They had a little play but were rudely interupted by a staffy :016:

Nice to have met you and your little William. We had a good day, it was very busy which i think was down to a few shows being cancelled due to bad weather. We did manage to get a few bits and pieces but we could have done with doing the sunday as well.

1st time to a Game Fair but definitely not the last.
I had a superb time & managed to get everything on my list and more
It was so lovely to meet so many of you at last & put a face to your names but also, more importantly!, to meet your fur babies, who are even more adorable in the fur than they are on the forum    :luv:

Sorry to of missed others but seeing as it was such a great event, no doubt we'll be back next year & hopefully get to meet up then   ;)

A special thank you to Jayne (Pearly) for the superb accommodation recommendation  :luv: :-* - can highly recommend Odfellows of Shifnal which met our needs perfectly .... the additional wine bar/restaurant that adjoins the accommodation, had nothing to do with swaying us to give this recommendations a trial (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-eatdrink007.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)  :005:

to top such a perfect day, the weather was just perfect & hope you all enjoyed it as much as i did

We had a lovely day too, Ro had a whale of a time being the only dog between 4 people and all the attention and food that that entailed :005:  The weather was fantastic and it was great to meet some new people, I was very taken with Pearl too, she's gorgeous :luv:  I only bought 2 more slip leads and got a bargain on a fleece shooting jacket, there was a lot of nice stuff there though; I hadn't been to this particular game fair before but I would definitely go back again next year.

I think that puts Pearl in the fluesy category since she was anyones who'd give her a bit of attention :005:

As ever the Game Fair at WP didn't disappoint, I do think it was quite a bit bigger than last year with more shopping to be had :shades:  it was fab to get to meet so many COL's and your dogs - Bo was beautiful and so well behaved, as was Willlow, Amber and Muswell but young Sydney stole the day for me :luv: :luv:

Ozzie and George seemed to be enjoying their day out, too......Miss J and Miss P spent the day together and if Jinley was anything like Pearl she slept the whole way to Devon!  AND was still dopey on Sunday

As if I hadn't shopped enough......I'm now off to purchase a rather fabulous handbag thank you Helen :D :005:

Ozzie and George had a lovely day their favourite was the food alley I think as they spent a good time hoovering up chips  :005:. Ozzie went all of a quiver ( more like a jelly really) when she met a ferret wasn't sure of it all and George sat with his head cocked to one side for a good two minutes looking at realistic crow that cawed which was on one of the stands. They did have a lie in, they had breakfast and a trot around the garden at 7 then went back to bed till 9 :D
It cost me a bit more than I expected the Pork Scratchings being the culprit as I managed to lose half a molar yesterday OUCH eating one. So off to the dentist I go. :'(

Was on about 12 on sat and 1 on Sunday. Sunday was the better one we were a bit thin on the ground Saturday. Was really pleased with both of mine as its the first time tess has ever done un-netted Sunday! Bobby has been really nervous and hasn't done flyball in public for nearly a year and ran happily both days :)
