I definitely agree with that article, it's why as I said I don't take mine out other than to see one or two drives until they're pushing 2 years old, there really is no rush and I'd rather hold off and have them 'overprepared' if anything than take them out at a year or so (when theoretically they are trained to shoot level) and it just blows their self control because they're not mature enough or steady enough to handle it yet.
