Caoimhe's Field Trial Write-Up
« on: March 16, 2011, 10:37:38 PM »
The write-up from the trial Caoimhe won has been put on the Gundog Society website, I'm really pleased with it.

She is 'Simon Tyers' hard-hunting bitch' by the way :lol2:

Novice Cocker Spaniel Stake
at Orsett, Essex
Wednesday 5th January 2011
Judges: Mr T. Baker and Mr S. Parker

The card looked liked the Championships with all the top handlers
coming to Essex for this Trial.

Mark Polley and his team had again prepared the ground well with
the dogs finding so much game you could have thought it was the
first month of the season, not the last! The guns took a little
longer to find their form which gave Robin Laud’s bitch six contact
flushes before his retrieve. The standard was exceptional with ten
awards in this sixteen dog stake.

Woodcock dropping in the plough dropped a number of top dogs
down the order. A top contender, Mallowdale Music, went out
after failing to make the fall on a woodcock shot out of bramble.
Simon Tyers hard hunting bitch hunted the stick piles with a
vengeance before a nice find on a cock shot out on the plough
putting him into a run off with Robin Laud. Robin and Simon took
their bitches into the laid cover crop and it was a difficult decision
to split them but Simon came out on top.

What I understand is very impressive. Congratulations.

Have you been training her, or does Simon do all of that?

Brilliant! :D

Strange question, but was Simon at Crufts doing a demonstation? I saw a 'Simon' doing a demo in the main ring with a black lab and from the photos i've seen of him he looked quite similar! I'm probably way out though :005:

Well done :D

Have you been training her, or does Simon do all of that?

A bit of both really, I started training her when I got her at 5.5 months old and got all the basics done and then she went to Simon when she was 9-10 months for 6 weeks for him to assess her properly and to start being shot over (having live game shot for her). She then came back to me for about 3 months and I kept working on her hunting and retrieving and then she went back to Simon's for another month for more game work around March time last year. Back to me again in April until the beginning of August and I worked on her all that time refining and sharpening her up on everything and then she went back to Simon for some really intensive game work and he put the polish on her for trialling. She stayed with him until the week after her win in January and she's back with me now and I've decreased her fitness a lot to give her a break and am just keeping her ticking over training-wise; she'll go back to Simon in July to get ready for running in Open trials next season.

Hmmm, not sure I would be too delighted to be described as a "hard hunting bitch"  ph34r :005:

She is doing fantastically though - no wonder you are so proud of her.  :D
