We've had a lot of snow today, so he's been out for 2 x 20 minute walks in it and was burying his nose in it quite regularly. Since about 4pm he's been going mad rubbing his nose....I've bathed him thoroughly in case he got something on it that's irritated it, and just given him some metacam with his tea. We're almost snowbound and our vets too far away to even contemplate tonight. Will phone 1st thing, can this be a reaction to the cold perhaps? I've gone all around the inside of his mouth, checked inside his nose and lipfolds but can't see anything and there is no swelling.

Could there have been salt under the snow? You try bathing his nose in camomile tea and/ or smear a bit of vaseline or something like that to relieve it if its got chapped?
Hope he‘s feeling better tomorrow!

Thank you. I will dig out some vaseline to try.

I was going to suggest the same - salt or grit under the snow. How is Riley today?
