I have permission to post this:
Rocky the cocker is now looking for a new home. Rocky is a 6-year-old blue roan cocker who badly needs a new sofa to call home. Poor lad, his dad died over a week ago and the rest of the family can't cope with a dog (because of their various disabilities). He was obviously the centre of the bloke’s life and was probably very spoilt, and is competing well with my 2 hooligans.
He loves his walks and loves cuddles even more. He comes with his own bed but he’d rather be with you on the sofa than in his bed (in fact while he’s been here Ed the cat and Wilf and Ruby have slept in his bed but not Rocky!). He’s your typical cheeky, strong-willed cocker who when he 1st meets strangers is a little shy with them but he doesn’t take long to get used to them. Gets on well with other dogs but a little scared if too many are bouncing around him. It’s a bit like having a big cuddly bear sitting around the house sometimes—often he just sits there on the sofa grumbling a way at nothing in particular like some big old bear! He’s ignored my cats most of the time he’s been here. Has met numerous kids but don’t think he’d be really suitable for a home with young kids as he hates a lot of screaming around and the general excitability that comes with kids.
Rocky is going to be neutered this week (probably this Wednesday) and generally checked out but he appears to be quite a fit dog (I’ve wormed him and his boosters are due sometime in September—vax certificate came with him). However he does have a cataract in one eye (limited vision or none) but it won’t spoil his enjoyment for life.
Rocky is already microchipped and I have the documents so whoever rehomes him can transfer him over to them.
Rocky is being fostered by me in South Wales on behalf of Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue (http://www.hwanimalrescue.org), and any prospective owners will be homechecked, sign an adoption agreement and pay an adoption fee. Will rehome anywhere in the UK. For any other details PM/email me.

Big heart string pull when I saw this :( He's such a gorgeous boy , it's so so sad that his family can't keep him.
I bet everyone on COL who reads this will think ' I want him ' I know I did, I hope he gets a fab new home, where he's treated like a king very soon!
Sending you a big hug Rocky, from Molly and Evie
-
Good luck Rocky :D
He is such a lovely boy
He deserves a new home where he will be spoilt and loved forever :)
-
PennyB, have e-mailed you about Rocky, he's so sweet. :)
-
Awww Rocky, I cant see you waiting too long for your forever home - not with that gorgeous face!!!!!!!! (http://www.valleytown.demon.co.uk/Darren/smilies/1luvu.gif)
-
Penny I honestly don't think Rocky will be looking for a home for much longer ;)
he's a beauty and you certainly described him in a lovely way..I would love another dog but the time isn't right at the moment :( but judging by noelleybelleys post things could look hopeful? please keep us posted
(Good luck little fella you deserve it) :D
Edith

Good luck son, i'm sure you won't be waiting very long. Your gorgeous
-
I can't offer him a home :( , but hope he gets a lovely forever home soon. Lovely boy!
-
I'll be watching with interest...I REALLY hope he finds his new forever home soon ;) In the meantime, well done Penny for looking after him and welcoming him into your home :)
-
His personality comes out day by day and while yesterday for whatever reason he was a bit down I've just caught him tearing round the yard with Wilf.
One thing I need to emphasise is that while he only has a cataract in one eye the possibility is that another could/probably will develop in his other eye and so he will be blind at some stage. Even so he will still have a good quality of life, just not a sighted one.
-
Are you positive he's only 6 Penny? All mine have developed cataracts in later life & have had limited vision, but only from the age of about 11-12 onwards. I think he looks older than 6 as well. He's a beautiful boy, but just comparing him with my 2 (Bess who's 12 & Dillon who's 5) Rocky looks closer in age to Bess than to Dillon. I wish I could take him on, but Dillon has such a bad aggression problem with males at the moment. I'm working on him, but it will take time & patience.

I agree I thought that as well, but when he was bought from the breeder (by his previous owners) his birthdate is given as 7 years in December (but then the breeder could've lied I suppose) but I have heard of dogs Rocky's age developing cataracts.
-
I suppose they can develop cataracts at any age, I've probably been lucky that mine have only had them when they've been quite old, so, together with slowing down due to old age, they didn't really affect their lives too much. A blind old dog is less of a liability than a blind youngster who would blunder into everything, they're bad enough when they can see
-
I think he'll be fine as he'll hopefully be settled into a house where they'll get used to it as will he and it might be a while yet who knows (will ask the vet on thurs when he's neutered, Rocky that is not the vet LOL)
-
Cataracts can develop in Cockers in middle-age or even earlier - sometimes they are a consequence of the eye disease PRA & sometimes not. I have seen a few Cockers Rocky's age with cataracts - if they were in both eyes, I would suspect PRA but as it's only one at the moment, then it's probably due to some other cause, perhaps hereditary but not necessarily.

:P good luck rocky you are a beautiful boy and im sure you wont have a problem getting a nice new sette to curl up on. xxxxxxxxx ;)

This is what I thought Jane. His heritage is unknown and he was a stud for a breeder, possibly a puppy farm or BYB, who probably didn't really care about these things (I know he didn't have a good life at the hands of his 1st owners who sold him to the bloke who just died age about 4).
-
Oh, tugging at the heart strings is what Rocky is doing........ <_< If we weren't going to Australia...................
Anywway, lots of luck in finding this little boy a forever home - as others have said, I don't see him hanging around long :D
Please keep us posted.

aww little rockey really is cute isent he  I thought on looking at his pic hes older then 6 as well , but mabe the stress of his unknown past has aged him , still this boy needs a new loving forever home and hes posted on the right place to find one . is anyone interested ? if you are you better get in there soon :D we all know cockers arent often homeless for too long  good with other dogs too! ;)

this got me thinking, about Poppys catteracts, in both eyes, but not completely blind yet..thankfully and she's 10. The vet said it was just age and a 'yorkie thing' but would this be PRA also? do Yorkies get that aswell?? I seem such a dunce at not knowing.. sorry to nip in in this thread but I thought it was interesting.
I hope Rocky is nearer to finding his forever home, he's such a handsome chap. :)

I don't think Yorkies are on the list of breeds affected with PRA Lynsey so no need to worry there. There are quite a few different kinds of cataracts & with Poppy's age, I'd say your vet was right, it's an age thing or "senile cataracts"

Im sure someone who has been looking for a cocker will turn up and love Rocky like we love Jake.

How's the lovely Rocky doing after his little op?

How's the lovely Rocky doing after his little op?
He's fine and ate quite well the same evening (fish and rice—when I managed to get the fish off the cat who thought I'd provided him with a lovely fish ice lollly at 1st!).
His stitches are due out next weekend so I guess he can go to his new home then—any takers!?
I think he would benefit from having at least another dog in the house (for company when human is out), and the rescue has no problem with people who work as long as suitable arrangements are made for someone to come in during the day at some point.
-
Has there been much interest in Rocky yet? It's apparently very slow at the moment in rescue, it's taking a while for dogs to be rehomed (including puppies).

There's not been a lot but someone is coming to see him weekend after next (she's assessing another cocker for H&W this weekend).
-
I'm surprised he has not been snapped up, bless him.
At least he's in very safe hands for the time being :)
-
Penny I have pm'd you about Rocky. I'd love to have him
-
I get the feeling Rocky's story is going to have a happy ending soon. :D
-
I sure hope so..he's such a fine looking gentleman he deserves to find a new home, not that Penny isn't looking after him brilliantly, however it's not the same as him finding his own permanent home.
-
:o :) ohh fingers crossed for him!
Good luck Rocky and Linda :)
-
Thanks Emma, :D Someone is seeing him next weekend but hey, you never know ;) I just hope he has that sofa of his own pretty soon, whether it's mine or someone elses :) :)
-
Good luck son, i'm sure whoever takes you, will give you a wonderful forever home. :)
-
Penny how are things with Rocky? :) give his hansome face a kiss for me will you..he's got such a wonderful face

He's quite a character and extremely stubborn (I thought Ruby was but he really does come out tops with this one).
One thing that touched me was that his mum rang the rescue to see how he was getting on and to say that they'd requested no flowers at his dad's funeral but a collection to go to the rescue (I welled up when I heard this).

HI,
this is my first post here but i felt i needed to let you all know that I am lucky enough to have become Rockys new mum.
He has settled down really well with my 3, and after a fairly hectic weekend he is snuggled up to Amber, my other cocker, on the sofa.
Thank you to everyone for the good wishes and genuine concern expressed for Rocky - who is even more gorgeous in real life than in photos.
Huge thanks to Penny for caring for Rocky so well. And for directing me after i got lost, driving through Cardiff after a long drive from Yorkshire.
Once again many thanks to every one concerned in allowing Rocky to join my family. If you are interested i will post to let everyone know how he is getting on

Hi Sue, wlecome to COL and glad the big bear is settling in well, and that he's got sweet Amber to snuggle up next to.
Got your message but was out walking the dogs in the rain when you rang (and also cuddling a lovely 14-week old border terrier as well that was running rings round Wilf out on the park LOL).
-
Aw hiSue, how lovely to meet you, I was so in love with Rocky's handsome face, please give him a lovely kiss from me. I am not in a position to have another dog at moment however if I had, Rocky would have been top of my list, but then I think he was loved by a lot of people on COL
Penny, well done you, and whats this about Wilf having rings run around him??? by a terrier Wilf?? and a pup at that?? come on Wilf!!! Wilf! Wilf!Ra ra ra! :P

Closing this thread at request of Penny.
Now that Rocky has a new home.
Regards
