Title: Please can you help?
Post by: Lily Freya on January 01, 2013, 06:10:35 PM
As most of you know, we have Luis(entire) 4 years old, Ollie (entire), who will be 4 in March.

Gracie, our puppy, was spayed by laparoscopy a month ago.....and all seemed well.

But, Ollie is now more interested than I have ever known.  We have friends visiting often with bitches, and there has never been a problem....BUT for 2 days now we have had play between Ollie an Gracie leading to what appears, to me, to be over interest.

I am being silly?

She appears to leave slight marks on the carpet that Ollie is interested in.....I clean them immediately, but I am not at all sure whether this mounting is his assertion in the pack, as we recently lost the matriarch Freya, or whether it is sexual.

Please can someone advise? Xx

I don't know if this will help but could it be her anal glands as when Hattie's need doing or have leaked Darcy shows a lot of sexual interest.

I was going to suggest anal glands as it sounds just like Fred when Kooki needs hers done

Thanks so much everyone.

OH is convinced there is no problem.....they play together so well.

Not had these dynamics before...and did wonder whether it was just a dominance thing, as his pack order has changed.

Oh well....all appears calm at the moment.

I can only tell you what I experienced with Logan and Penny. All 3 of my girls were having seasons and Logan would be interested in all 3, but then we started to notice he became much more interested in Penny, and began singling her out even when the others were in full bloom with their seasons. He spent all his time following her around and licking her (as is his way when the girls are in season). But then it was also noticed that Logan seemed to think that Penny was in season more often than not, it got so bad it was every 12 wks sometimes less. At that point we took her to the vets who suspected either cysts on her ovaries or a tumour. It turned out following a spay she had neither condition and her reproductive organs appeared fine. The only possible explanation was she had developed adhesions due to a previous c section. But despite all of that even to this day as soon as Logan gets a whiff of one of the girls he assumes it is Penny and starts courting her again. I must say at this point he has never been allowed to mount her, whether she would have gone along with that or not. Has your girl still got her ovaries perhaps that are sending out signals to him and confusing him. I know we'll never get to the bottom of our mystery but other people have seen what he's like with Penny and he just can't leave her alone and to ignore a bitch at day 12-13 in favour of Penny means something must be going on as far as Logan is concerned.

Thank you so much.  Gracie had a lap spay, so they leave the uterus (if I have that right).  It is all rather odd, because he isn't interested today.  The two days that he showed interest, we noticed little tiny marks on the carpet.  So, perhaps it is anal glands as someone as suggested, or even that she is giving off some kind do scent.  She is six months now.

I really appreciate you answer.  I just didn't know what to make of it.  We have had two girls in the past, but neither were spayed.  Gracie had to be, as we have the boys now.

All is quiet today......so,fingers crossed it might have sorted itself, whatever it was.
