Well, Lovely was spayed on the 5th feb and has been absolutely full of beans and fine in herself apart from the first night which is to be expected. She's just finished a course of antibiotics as her scar was inflamed but that looks fine now; she's also been on metacam because of the scar. Anyway, she had a little accident on the carpet and when i mopped it up, it's pink which i assume is blood? She's not weeing more frequently, she still has the occasional accident so i'm not worried about her continence and she doesn't appear in discomfort. She's due to see the vet on fri anyway for her scar but wondered if pink urine is side effect of the op or meds? Am worried thanks alison.

It could be a reaction to the meds :-\ I would give your Vet a quick ring Alison, Friday is a long way off when you're worried.

Yes this happened with Molly; when we queried it the vet said it often happened; something to do with where they do the incision the blood can pass through the bladder, which is why you're seeing a pinky colour. Sorry about my poor explanation; I just remembering asking the vet and he said there was a normal reason for it!

Ok thanks guys i think i'll ring vet later just to be on the safe side. The strange thing is that Spud has been sniffing her and chattering his teeth like he would if she was coming into season. Will update with what vet says.

Spoke to nurse, she said to bring a sample in case of infection, and i've moved appt to tomorrow. Bloomin hope it's not an infection she. Just finished one lot of antibiotics.

Hooray! Lovely saw the vet today and she thinks the blood is probably just leftover from the op and nothing to worry about. No sign of infection, green light for normal exercise. Am so relieved hopefully we can get back to normal now!

Well after mopping up more pink urine yesterday I rang the vet again and took Lovely to be seen last night. Neither I nor the vet had managed to get a sample so I left armed with a super duper collecting kit and managed to get sample today. Was puzzled as the collected urine was a lovely clear yellow, not pink. The only reason I had any idea of the urine being pink was from the odd accident I'd cleaned up from our carpet which is... dark red. I poured some hot water on the carpet and yes, when I mopped it up it was pink!! I feel so stupid (and relieved). I rang the vet and confessed as I feel really guilty for wasting their time, they haven't charged me for any of the post-op checks. What a wally I am!!
