Not sure wether to put this in health or feeding. Harvey has been having a lot of trouble with his anal glands >:D they don't get infected but cause him a lot of discomfort and he has them emptied regularly at the vets. I have started him on raw chicken wings , which he loves and have been giving them to him twice a week with some success, but once again he is bottom shuffling. I was wondering if I could increase the chicken wings to say every other day, is this ok?

Isn't there anyone with any advice :dunno:

Yes you could increase the chicken wings to every other day without causing a problem. I know of others who've had success by adding something like bran or all-bran to each meal.
Has your vet ever commented on the reason for Fenby's problem? I ask because William, who's almost 9 years old, has had anal gland problems all his life and various vets have told me that it's because his anal glands are in the wrong place :o. Vets have described their positioning as too high, too far in and floating. What it means is that regardless of his diet (used to be kibble, now raw) whatever is passing through doesn't help to empty the glands so they fill up and need emptying regularly. So I'm wondering if Fenby has the same problem?
So far William's never had an infection thank goodness. I don't know if that's just luck or if it has anything to do with the fact that they're always emptied by a vet, so the emptying is done by an internal method not external, which I believe is what many groomers and owners do. I try to leave them as long as possible between times and feeding raw has helped a bit, but they still have to emptied about every 3 to 4 months.

Thanks for that I will increase them, the vet hasn't mentioned about them being in the wrong place. Just to set the record straight it's Harvey that has the problem, not Fenby ;)

My guys are fed raw and have chicken carcases every day as well as raw tripe. NEVER had a problem with anal glands (dogs, not me :005:)

Hi, misty has had the same problem since being a pup. Now she is off higher protein content puppy food my vet recommended trying other brands . So went to JWB with no change so vet suggested Chappie. So far after two months she now seems to be improving. Vet did say it can take several months to see a difference when changing diets and to stick with one food for a while before trying another. Chappie is one of the least expensive but my two previous dogs also thrived on it. (The dried not the tinned).

Jinley has a chicken wing for breakfast every morning and so far (touch wood) has had no anal glands problems.
