Title: Unexpected visit to the vet's today
Post by: siam on February 23, 2013, 12:37:18 PM
This morning Alfie had a pink eye, the membrane was covering it halfway up and he was blinking quite a lot so thought it would be best checked out by the vet. However when I took him for a walk beforehand he was fine and the membrane was no longer visible so thought I’d maybe been too hasty making an appointment.  We’re now back from the vet’s and so glad I went with my gut instinct as he had a corneal ulcer in the middle of his cornea, caused by a scratch probably while he was running through bushes.  He had painkiller drops put in, following by green dye to identify the damaged area. The vet then explained that the cornea has layers similar to an onion, in that you can peel off the damaged top layer, which she then proceeded to do with a cotton wool bud. Alfie was a little trooper and didn’t flinch at all while his eye was being attended to. We have ointment to apply 3 times daily and go back in a week for a check up to see if the cornea has healed.
He does look a bit strange with one vivid green eye after the dye, I should add!  :005:

Exactly the same happened to Teddy last week - a week on and 4 visits to the vets and he's getting better. His eye looked pretty awful for a while but he's almost back to looking like himself again now. One more check up in 10 days time. :D

The green eye look is a good one, isn't it! :005:

Hope Alfie feels better soon - our vet said it was incredibly painful.

Get well soon little fella.  There's nothing wrong with green eyes, until your big cocker eyes are fixed.  :luv:

Glad Teddy's eye is on the mend. Am hoping Alfie won't need any more visits before next week. The vet said it was good I had taken him along so promptly. Was apprehensive about putting the cream (rather than drops) in the eye as it was always a bit of a trial when any of the children needed cream put in. However he sat perfectly while my OH held his head and I held his eye open to put the cream on - he's such a good boy(sometimes)!!

Lol, Alfie is definitely a VERY good boy - it has been taking 2 of us to pin Teddy down to get the drop in. Even the vet had to call a nurse to help get them in!  ph34r

How's Alfie doing now? Henry's just had this diagnosed and currently has the green eye. Trying not to look into the condition on the internet as you just find scary things.

Alfie's eye's doing well thanks. I had him back at the vet on Sat and she was very pleased with how it's healing but the blood vessels in his eye are still a bit enlarged so he has to continue getting the eye ointment on his cornea each day. She also tested him for dry eye which was negative thankfully. He had 2 bright green eyes when we left the surgery - he did look strange!!
Hope Henry's eye heals quickly too.
