Hi Everyone....After a false start recently, Tootsie is now having her first season. The bleeding I think is in the 3rd day, but she is very good at keeping clean so it could possibly be longer than that, I noticed swelling down below on Tuesday and then bleeding after watching and checking with a wipe. She seems on and off quite restless, and its obvious she would love to escape, we have lots of games and toys etc I took her out for a short walk very early today and over the weekend I will take her for walks at night whilst my son is staying over, the quietest and hopefully safe time when other dogs aren't around.
She does seem to be pacing a bit and this seems more like distress rather than lack of exersize causing it, am just wondering what I can do to ease that for her? it must be confusing for her as she wont understand what is going on.

Sorry dont have any advice for you...but Im just wondering...do dogs get pain when in season ?

Aww poor Tootsie :bigarmhug: I don't have any suggestions sorry, but Ruby became quite distressed during her first season, so I understand what you mean :luv: One day I went out for food shopping and shut her in the kitchen for about an hour. Came home to find that she had scratched the kitchen door down to the bare wood :o She had scratched so hard that her paws were bleeding.....
Hopefully there will be someone along soon with suggestions for you :luv:

You could try a few drops of rescue remedy in her drinking water, it has a calming effect so might help.
I'm sure she'll settle in a few days bless her xx

rescue remedy ...sounds a good idea, thankyou I will get some today.

Tootsie's bleeding should last around 10 days but always lean on the side of caution :shades:
After approximatley 10 days is when she becomes receptive to males, "this is danger time" :021: :fear2:
To be on the safe side this period should take 15 days and during this time be extra vigilant and confine her or at least be very careful where you walk her :012: :police:
She'll be quite cute herself and try to get to the male dogs :o

yes I am going to confine, its really not worth taking any chances, and she is indeed being very cute, it was my choice to let her have at least one season before spaying, some say two and some vets say none at all. Parents always had girls and they always had two seasons before spaying so I guess its just what am used to. I may well though not let her go through a second one.
Many Thanks for all the advice.

Rowan is on day 15, no blood today for the first time. Over all she's fine, no interest in much even going out. She's normally out loads and we thought she'd miss that and create for it but not so far. She won't be seperated from us and uses her paw to get us to tummy rub constantly. No loss of appetite either (no surprise there)! We are confining too, to be on the safe side especially as her friend a gorgeous but extremely randy male chocolate worker from two doors down is walked off lead!

well having managed to get some rescue remedy into her, she has settled better this evening. so will keep with that for a day or so and hope she will calm a bit. poor little girl she was quite distressed and pacing today, but happily sleeping and snugged up now with a new teddy. :luv:

When I asked the question on this site the general opinion was to let them have at least one season and allow them to mature
Only problem we had was Miya (my pup) was having a phantom pregnancy and the vet couldn't operate. I was quite relieved at the time but we have to take her back middle of this month, just before her second season should be due :'( >:(

Awwww I hope it goes as smoothly as can in them circumstances. Tootsie has settled now, and on her 6th day of bleeding, I think, so just a few more and hopefully that will stop and then I can count and hopefully get right when its safe to take her out again. I will be very sure before I chance it. Yes its the opinion in my family to let her get that level of maturity from having two seasons so if she gets another in 6months time and adding the 2-3 months after season that they say to spay, then I will get her spayed in December. Thankfully as with first season I hear, the bleeding has just been spotting and not much, and she is keeping herself very clean. She is much calmer and I only had to use the rescue remedy once.
Hoping you get things happily sorted :bigarmhug:
