I am asking this for a friend
She has two dogs, both vaccinated against kennel cough. However one of the dogs has now had kennel cough three times, though vaccinated. Clears up quite easily with a dose or two of antibiotics. Other dog never catches it
Vet has not heard of this before
Has anyone else had any experience of this
Thanks

Yep - friends dog will always pick up KC if its in the area and they are both vaccinated...

I believe the theory is that the vaccination is only against one of the kennel cough strains and there are many?

We had two staffies vaccinated which resulted in one girl getting kc a few days later. She had not been in contact with any other dogs , we put the vaccine down as the culprit

Erin caught kennel cough despite being vaccinated....was mild case though and recovered quickly

I wondered about this, a bit like flu vaccine! But why would one catch it but the other not?
Thanks for your replies

I guess his immune system isn't as strong as the other ones? It's like me getting a cold and my partner not.
BTW the vet should not be prescribing anti-biotics for a basic case of KC UNLESS there is an associated infection. Like a cold it's a virus and antibiotics do not do anything to help recovery (and in fact just overload a dog's system....which is possibly another reason why his system is not so strong if he's being given them each time ;) )
