So happy this afternoon. Rowan was referred to the vet hospital for suspected PRA. I was confused as I'd done a huge amount of research before getting her and bought from a well renowned breeder who had DNA tested and had clear results. Good news is specialist has said it's not PRA (any form), its cataracts (congenital). One eye has up to 95% clear and the other up to 50% clear, but he doesn't expect this to deteriorate so wont operate. He suspects Rowan has had this from birth, but its more an unlucky thing - her litter mates probably aren't affected. We obviously can't breed but we never were going to anyway, but other than that she should be fine. She has a 6 month check up to be sure there's no deterioration. Not brilliant diagnosis if you were at a point of not thinking anything was wrong, but brilliant for us from a starting point of our vet thinking GPRA from her examination. She's absolutely delighted she was wrong too, especially as Rowan only 19 months. :D

Thats brilliant, really good news, you must be so happy :D

I guess I can say that that is great news. If her sight worsens then they can possibly operate, bet you feel over the moon. :luv:

I am absolutely delighted for you :D. That is brilliant news, such a relief that it's not PRA and her vision is not expected to deteriorate further. Fingers crossed here the cataracts remain stable. Am so, so pleased to read this :luv: :luv:

That's good news really :luv: especially as the specialist doesn't think there will be any deterioriation.
William was diagnosed with cataracts a couple of years ago when he was 6. He has 6 monthly check ups and so far there's been no change to his cataracts. The opthalmist describes William's eyesight as being similar to somebody permanently wearing scratched sunglasses :o which sounds a bit alarming, but it doesn't seem to bother or hinder him at all.

What a relief to know it's not the dreaded PRA. Even better that the specialist doesn't think the cataracts will get any worse. You must be feeling very relieved. Diana :luv:
