Title: Indy's Off To See The Shrink!
Post by: Sue67 on May 28, 2013, 07:06:50 PM
Joking aside, her issues with her feet and legs are getting a bit beyond coping with.

We can't groom her without sedatives, a muzzle and two of us to hold her, our vet does behaviour therapy so I figured why not give it a go?

It certainly can't hurt and Indy will be 7 this year so I don't want to be sedating her into her old age.  :dunno:

Anybody had any experience of behaviour therapy?

No experience, sorry. Just wanted to say that I hope it all goes well and you get some positive outcomes.

I will be really interested, if we take him to the groomers she thinks he is lovely and no trouble, If I tried would get bitten so ave to muzzle him.

Keep us Informed as to how it progresses.

Agree with Helen's question... I would want to know what experience, qualifications and professional registration qualifies the vet to offer "behavioural therapy".
I can completely understand you wanting to try to get a result but, if the vet isn't using positive training techniques it *could* quite easily hurt, as aversive or flooding methods could make the fear more pronounced.  For this reason I would want to be very clear about what techniques he/she was going to use before going ahead.

Hopefully the vet is one who is genuinely up-to-date with modern behaviour techniques and can help Indy with her issues.
