Title: Xmas presents for your dogs
Post by: linda c on November 15, 2013, 11:41:46 AM
:lol2: Has anybody started getting xmas presents for their dogs?  Know it's a bit early but it's only a few weeks away :005:

Do they open them or do you have to sit there opening one and saying " oooh look it's a bag of lovely treats " and they just  look at you a bit blank.

Or have you got the one that dives into the parcel and rips it to shreds :lol2:

I will start soon, but to be honest I usually tend to get stuff when he needs it. Cos he is a young pup he got quite a few things when I bought him home (new & second paw  )

No doubt there will be stuff for him - but not yet  :luv:

Ooh yes!  And, also loads for my dogs' friends too.  :005: :005:

Every Christmas our dogs get some kind of fancy Christmas collar so they look 'posh' when we go out to lunch at our daughter's home.  It's our little tradition.

So far, gift-wise, they have all got a new toy each, and a pack of chicken fillets (their favourite treat of all.....introduced to them by Poppsie...Dianne).

Exciting stuff preparing for Christmas, hey?  I'm like a child about the whole thing. Xx

I usually go mad at Christmas buying: last year we just had Molly and she got numerous toys, a million treats, a ball pool, a jumper and a bandana  :005:

This year we have Molly and Fin, but we are in the process of buying our first house so Christmas is downsized this year!  So I've just got them 2 toys, some treats and would also like to get them a cheap bubble gun/bubble machine.

Brodie loves getting presents - in fact every time a parcel comes through the post she thinks it's for her :lol2:. She's very hard to buy for these days though. The only treats it seems she can tolerate are dried chicken, and she very quickly loses interest in any toys - she only has eyes for her beloved teddy bear!

So think I will buy her a cheap teddy out of a charity shop. At least if she decides she doesn't want it I won't have paid too much for it :shades:. Oh, and I have bought her a flirt pole (for her Christmas, but got it early - couldn't resist  :005:), but it needs some modification as she's not too keen on the toy at the end.

Oops, not thought about that at all. The boys could do with some new toys - they're all looking a bit battered. Emily will have to have something edible as she 'doesn't do toys'  :005:

Charlies has been in weeks...I normally bulk buy his treats, so he normally just gets big bags of his normal biscuits, a few extra treats, and some P@H sausages that he loves. He also normally gets a ball of some sort :).

Last year we didn't wrap his presents, but he got some wrapped presents of family and friends - and he took great delight in spending AGES, tearing tiny bit of paper by tiny bit of paper of a couple of presents - this year. I'll wrap some of the stronger smelling stuff so he can have fun unwrapping them.

Although, like Brodie, he isn't overly interested in toys; he's got his favourites that he's had years and his ultimate favourite...however, I found a very similar shape and sized teddy to his favourite teddy online this year, so it's on it's way :). He is obsessed with balls though  :005:

I don't buy special presents for Coco at Christmas - what with her being a dog and all, she doesn't really understand the significance  :005: Yes, I am a cruel mum  :lol2:  In her world, it is like Christmas every day and she gets everything she needs anyway.

She loves opening parcels though, so I just wrap up a few of the toys she hasn't seen for a while and some treats and she has a great time ripping them open - it always makes me laugh.  If I don't do this, she will have a go at my presents  >:D  :lol2:

Definately maureen,
They are low in calories and natural, and I almost fancy trying one myself ;)
Says natural and high in potassium low in calories, he only gets a max of 2 per day.

Viovet have them reasonable when fish4dogs dont have them on offer

Odie used to love Christmas, he always "helped" my daughters open their presents, even though I'd wrap something up for him.  I'll be getting Archie more cuddies, he loves them but they don't last long!  Also, I stock up on treats and wrap them up too.

As it's his 1st Christmas, I'm expecting him to be the same helpful soul as his predecessor  :lol2:

Jamie's got a lovely new collar for his birthday but i will probably end up giving it him before the day! For chrismas he's got two tubs of antos chews which i will wrap up and put under the tree before i go to my mum and dads - I'm sure OH will help Jamie unwrap them if he can't work it out! i've ordered him an 'addidog' jumper as well and every time i go into PAH i see the little food gifts they have so he will probably end up with some of those aswell. Oh and he already has a new reindeer toy!  :005:

William and Louis usually have a new toy or some treats but what they really enjoy is playing with the wrapping paper as presents are unwrapped and having the turkey giblets and neck (raw of course) for Christmas breakfast.

Me too Maureen - I am thinking where am I going to put deccos for safety, but to be honest unless his nibs is left on his todd he really does not seem bothered about stuff being about. Still not sure I would leave a bonio laden christmas tree alone for long tho

One of these, Lisa:

You can make them quite easily yourself, but mine's kept breaking and when I saw this I knew it would be perfect for Brodie's Christmas - she loves to chase things. One way to sneakily exercise her without her realising it :005:

My two get a squeaky soft toy pheasant each. They must admit don't last that long. Once the stuffing is out then they use it any way. They only get one once a year but just go mad for them.

In an effort to find something they liked I bought them one of these

Have been great would recommend.

Must say do like the look of the flirt pole!

I wrap up my dog's Christmas presents but he doesn't really understand the idea about ripping off the paper!

He did have a box of Bonios for Christmas until I absent-mindedly opened them ... I've only just realised from reading this thread that now he has no present.

I did see this in P@H which he will like so I might get that for him. I shouldn't really get him any treats, he has loads too many as it is.

this is after the frenzy of ripping and shredding all of the wrapping paper of every single present (including OH's and mine).

Jarv loves doing the unwrapping - he doesn't really care if the presents are for him or not (although we wrap up some stuff like packets of gravy bones and maybe a toy) - he just loves the paper destruction!

It's part of our christmas morning now and seeing him so happy is definitely the best start to Christmas  :lol2:

Bella is the same not bothered about the toys but loves unwrapping /tearing the paper off things. Molly is just clue less and pinches the toy once Bella has unwrapped it.

Ellie has wrapped presents under the Christmas tree, we can only put them there early on Christmas morning before she gets to the tree as she investigates all the presents as soon as any are put there, looking for her own.  From her very first Christmas she couldn't understand why there were no more presents for her under the tree after Christmas morning, so from then on she has had a little present wrapped up, a couple of gravy bones or whatever, every morning under the tree until the tree comes down and then she accepts there will be no more until next year.

They are both getting equafleeces this year after buying cheap alternatives last year that really don't cut the mustard >:D

I expect there will be a treat or two also from Santy Paws :005: :005: :005:

I have decided I can spend up to £50 on Merlin's Christmas present.

So far I've decided on a Hurtta harness (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004FU9ZR0/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=pet-supplies) and  an all-in-one suit (http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/dogs/dog_clothing/waterproof/248453). Which leaves me about £15. Anyone got any suggestions? I don't need a new collar or lead, or coat, and certainly not any treats

would like to buy five month old pup a toy you can put treats in and they have to get them out?  I have seen one on Amazon but comments included 'chewed to pieces in five minutes'
  Mostly she just likes balls!
Squeeky toys don't interest her.
Any other 'mind' games?  Or is there a book of things you can do with your dog - just to make a change from standard training!
Thanks!

I bought Alfie a few little bits 'n pieces on Thurs and was saying to the assistant its easier buying for pets than the rest of the family! :005: My son spotted this Squirrel puzzle toy on Amazon's black Friday so has secured it this am for £8. We've chosen it not so much for the puzzle aspect but because he loves carrying tiny soft squeakies in his mouth.

Merlin is a lucky boy this year. He's getting:

Blue Julius K-9 harness

Blue 'Red Dingo' reflective lead & collar:

All-in-one dog suit

My family is contributing most to it though so I'm only paying for the collar

I bought Brodie a collar today for her Christmas (it's tradition ph34r :005:) and can't wait to see it on her:

I did think about getting her an equafleece tankie, but it seems they are out of the ones with the zip, and she won't like the one that goes over her head.

I bought Brodie a collar today for her Christmas (it's tradition ph34r :005:) and can't wait to see it on her:

I did think about getting her an equafleece tankie, but it seems they are out of the ones with the zip, and she won't like the one that goes over her head.

Ooooh Kooki would love fabulous in one of them- I believe we are suffering from a severe case of collar envy.......

It's the first I've bought for months, feeling very proud of myself at that :lol2:. It would look gorgeous on Kooki too :luv:

I wrapped 2 of Charlie's presents yesterday, I won't wrap the rest...however I put them in a sack yesterday and put it in the spare room...this morning he was not impressed that he couldn't smell them in the drawer...took me to the spare room,I opened the door and he went straight to his presents...showed me them, and settled down after that :)
