Hi there
We have just got a cocker bitch now 10 weeks old. She came from the breeder on royal canin junior which she eats well. I have had a look at it on which dog food web site and it doesn't seem the best, especially for the price.
I have two other dogs who are on natures menu raw complete frozen blocks which they do well on but don't exactly look forward to eating! I also have o bulk rder in advance and defrost or thm which i ometimes forget! I am guessing the pup couldn't have raw food for some time anyway, (?) but I would like to try and get them all on a similar food but I am just not keen on idea of dry as it seems very boring having the same food every day plus I was told it makes them drink more and then wee more which won't help pup with toilet training!
My other two seem to love the cooked food pouches like Lily's kitchen, symply and natures menu. I just wondered should I keep pup on the royal canin as she's eating it up or switch to something with better quality ingredients? The pet shop by us recommends canagan but that is only available in dry and I'm not sure they have a puppy variant. They also suggested symply puppy.
Thanks in advance! X

pups can go straight to raw but I believe they have to have a higher percentage of body weight fed. someone will be along later with more info

Hi yes thats correct. Their diet is based on adult weight ie around 12 kg.
There is a good sticky on the feeding thread that KellyT did. You could start your pup on a raw chicken wing in a morning.

When you say that diet is based on ideal adult weight, Murphy is on Natural Instinct and on the box it says to feed 6% of ideal weight. I took it to mean 6% of the ideal weight they should be at that particular age. When we first started feeding it the lady in the shop told us to give him 300g a day, which is nowhere near 6% of ideal adult weight.
Have I been massively under feeding him?
He is now on 500g a day which would be a bit more like it.

After a bit of research I have decided to move pup and my other two dogs on to nutriment raw food. The lady on the phone said to do an immediate transfer, nt gradual. I know my older two will be fine as they're used to raw on natures menu but for the pup going from royal canin dry to raw meat in one go seems a bit of a leap!
They also said she can go on it from 12 weeks so once we have used up the royal canin we can try it. She does love the royal canin tho and has picked out all the bits of symply puppy I put in!
