Wilma has had diarrhea since Monday. There has been no change to her kibble, but on Sunday she did drink some milk at the 'in laws' house >:( and on Monday morning walk ate some chicken (?) which she found on the floor when off lead....probably some discarded takeaway.
Every time she poops it is loose, or watery/greasy. Also she Has diarrhoea through the night. There is no blood. It can look gel-like at times.
Apart from this she is full of beans. Drinking well, gums look healthy. Still running around house cocker-style, and eating her kibble. She has not vomited and hasn't shown any abdominal discomfort when we groom or lightly prod her in this area. I have stopped giving her rawhide chews and told everyone to not give her titbits (which we have been guilty of). She is wormed and vaccinated.
I am willing to pay for vet treatment, but equally don't want to start her on antibiotics unless necessary...in my experience every vet visit includes a shot of antibiotics 'just in case'. Do you hunk his is serious? If so, I'll be there like a shot. :o
I haven't tried boiled chicken and rice diet yet so may give that a go today and see how we get on for 24 hours. If that doesn't work, ill book appt for tomorrow. Does this sound reasonable to others given that she is bright and alert?
Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Forgot to mention she is 16 weeks old, and stools been normal since collecting from breeder at 12 weeks.

Yes try something bland..
chicken/fish/rice and see.
keep a close eye on her, any
deterioration go to Vet.
They can get dehydrated quickly
when little, so plenty to drink as well.
I'm just a bit concerned that pup might of
eaten some cooked chicken bone too.

eta if you do go Vet try to take

If it looks gel like it sounds like she might have a touch of colitis :luv: so I would be taking her to the vets. If she has eaten something she shouldn't this can cause colitis as it makes her bowl inflamed hence the gel like stuff :luv: poor lamb will be wondering whats going on x x x

I would take her to the vets now as it's been going on for a good few days.
I totally sympathise with your reservation about antibiotics but if you have a good talk to your vet he or she may give you a proper answer why she should be given antibiotics if that's the decision.
Their advise and support might give you peace of mind.

The jelly stuff sounds like colitis which ( think I'm correct) is caused by too much protein so if she scavenge alot of chicken could have triggered it. Think a trip to vet might be needed to calm her system down

Willow had a lot of colitis as as a pup. Her poops were very mucussy!! Prokolin paste was a godsend for us and always seemed to settle her tum. Also she would have a few days on either chicken or white fish and rice to firm her up a bit.

Prokolin here for Minstrel (he had colitis too), along with fish/rice etc. I keep a couple of 30ml tubes in his cupboard.
I would check with your vet b4 giving her anything though, just to make sure you know what you are dealing with, and you can query anything you are not happy with.

Thanks all. I have made appt for vet for tmrw (which she told me to cancel if she improves overnight). In the meanwhile I will feed only bland food like you suggested. Quick question ...if colitis is triggered by too much protein wouldn't feeding chicken aggravate it? :huh:
Positively, there has been no sign of diarrhoea since posting the message this morning, but also no sign of a poop yet! I will see how she gets on after her dinner and if her poop is still loose by the morning I will take her to the vet.
I have used prokolin with previous dogs, so will try and get some of this too.There are some suggestions that plain live yoghurt will have same impact...anyone had any luck with this for loose stools?
She is still bounding around so hopefully it is nothing too serous :D

No disrepect to lescef, but when my Poppy got colitis is was usually because she had snaffled something she shouldn't have ph34r. I would just stick to the prokolin for the time being as yogurt is cows milk and you might just make matters worse :luv: Hope Wilma gets sorted real soon ;) x x x

Have just read up on it and it can be due to stess and bacteria. I only know about it as I have had two cockers that developed colitis whenever they had too much protein.

Quick update- Wilma has not had any further diarrhoea :D
Starved her for 12 hours yesterday and then started her on chicken and rice. She has been a toilet once (last night) and it was paler and not oily (still loose). Vet advised today that we 'wait and watch' over next 24 hrs, as Her body may have started to heal on its on. She is not dehydrated or in obvious pain, and I must keep bland diet going over next few days.
She hasn't passed a motion since last night...she was typically going twice daily before she became unwell (when it increased to 5-6 times), but I'm guessing that's the new diet and emptier belly??
If she does not toilet by tmrw, we head to the vet!

Sounds like a step in the right direction. :D
I would deffo buy some pro kolin and keep some in as it won't harm her. Glad she is on the mend :D

Just wanted to post a quick thanks to those who offered advice. Wilma is back to normal after change to her diet. I started her on prokolin yesterday too. And positively her toilet training is back on track. No accidents since Thursday night :D

Good news indeed, hope things continue to improve.
Not sure if you are aware that you can buy Prokolin much cheaper on line than at vets

Glad she has perked up.
When you wean her back onto the kibble i suggest its done gradually mixed with her bland diet. Just out of interest what kibble is she on? The only reason i ask is because we had to change willows kibble several times during puppyhood to get one than suited her.

She has Arden Grange puppy good, but prior to this Iams. She was weaned on This but transferred over in past few weeks.
I have reintroduced her kibble slowly....and so far so good. I think she is missing the chicken and yoghurt though :D
