Hi, Mae is now 10 months and either leaves some of her brekkie or doesn't touch her tea. I feed the amounts the breeder told us. Now if there was meat added I would have a clean bowl each time. But shes not that lucky, treat days only,
Just considering to dropping to one meal. But a whole pint of food in one bowl is a lot, but then she would have an appitite for it , any ideas please

How does the breeders advice relate to the feeding information from the manufacturer? Also how active is Mae?

My two adult show cockers are fed once a day. Always have been (since adults).
-
I've always fed twice a day and can only imagine the reproachful looks I'd get if I only fed them once :lol2:
Maybe Mae doesn't need as much food as you're giving her? All dogs are different and feeding guidelines are just a starting point from which you adjust according to your dog's needs and waistline.
But if you're thinking about it why don't you just try it and see if it works? If it doesn't you can always go back to twice a day.

My lot have a small breakfast of dry kibble only , then soaked kibble with a little meat for their main meal , then a bonio after we have eaten at night , why doesn't she get meat every day ??

Thanks all, Mae has a run at the park once a day then a small 20 mins in the evening. She's always on the go but naps a lot in between. I feel that if I dropped the amount in quantity she would start to slim down. But when she leaves food she's not eating the rec amount anyway. The breeder told us what to feed as he owns a kennels and is a dog trainner so I went by his advice. I think I might try once a day. Evening she is most hungry so maybe a big meal at 5pm see how that goes

I give her meat as a treat few times a week. If she has it every day she won't touch her kibble at all. And that's been tried and tested, she's always been fussy and meat made things so much harder as she sat by her kibble. As a working dog I need her to thrive on kibble and not rely on tasty handouts

My lot get meat and kibble daily (even the 'working' one). It won't ruin her to have something she likes. many working kennels feed raw or a mix. And many add tripe or oily fish during the shooting season to keep weight on their dogs. It's about what suits the dog - and they're all different.

Thanks all, yeah maybe a should try meat more. I think I will cheers all :005:
