I think you should phone your vet for immediate advise

I checked his mouth and tongue and no sign of stings, my normal reaction would have been to taken him straight to the vets but we were just on our way out to meet friends for a walk when he ate it! I have kept an eye on him and he seems fine, going to keep a close eye on him for the rest of the afternoon just in case and also give vets a call for advice.

Just phoned the vets, they said as he is not showing any effects then not to worry and just to keep an eye on him.  Little monkey is fast asleep after a lovely country walk.

Glad he's OK :D

William got stung near his mouth by a bee when he was a puppy and his face started to swell up within a couple of minutes. It was a Sunday of course, so I had to rush him to the emergency vet, but luckily his face had stopped swelling by then and his airways hadn't been affected. He was back to normal within an hour.

I keep Piriton tablets in the house. Giving a child's dose of Piriton (has to be the basic Piriton, not the non-drowsey one) won't hurt and may help with stings and bites.

Thank you, I was thinking about getting some piriton in case of stings or similar for the future but wasn't sure which ones or how much. I'll pop some on the shopping list :)

When you're buying don't tell the chemist that they're for the dog, if asked, as they'll probably refuse to sell them to you!

Riley was only 5 months when he ate a wasp, and his face swelled horribly within minutes and he just flopped onto the floor wimpering.  I drove like a literal maniac to the out of hours vets which was 10 miles away in a horrid state of panic, and was crying by the time i got in to the reception area.  The vet called us straight in, told me to calm down and said that Riley was fine!! He had a dose of piriton and the vet said that in 20 years of practice she had only seen one dog die of a wasp sting..... I was more than a little embarassed.  I wouldn't panic again, and have piriton tablets in the cupboard just in case.  It is very scary though :)

one of our cats frequently ate wasps and bees - she did a very good Jordan impression as her lips always puffed up!  She never suffered a bad reaction but I guess that they are the same as humans and some will be allergic where as others won't.
