Title: Internal burns?
Post by: Spoiler on November 15, 2014, 08:40:52 PM
Hi, am just panicking a bit as Harvey has swallowed a red hot roast potato as I took them out of the oven. I didn't realise he had crept up behind me and when one fell on the floor he gulped it down. I immediately gave him a bowlful of ice cold water (had to put a bit of milk in it to make him interested in it). He seems ok but don't know if he will have done any internal damage (they were too hot for me to touch!). Has anyone else's cocker ever suffered any damage this way? I feel really bad

mime have eaten an assortment of stolen hotties ( I am clumsy and always dropping stuff) but they have never had any adverse effect. it always panics me more than it bothers them

Thanks Min, I really did panic as it was red hot, but as you say there don't seem to be any adverse effects. He's chilled out in front of the fire with not a care in the world. I will have to make sure he's not so close next time (but there are really clever when there's a possibility of stealing a morsel or two aren't they! )

40 odd years ago, my first cocker, Teddy, swallowed a red hot sausage whole  :o. I panicked a bit but the sausage made another appearance shortly after, looking exactly the same as it went in. No, I didn't serve it up with mash & beans as originally planned  :005:

It did put Teddy off scavenging for a couple of days, I think his throat was a bit burned.
