Title: Diarrhea (tmi)
Post by: Jane57 on November 17, 2014, 03:53:02 PM
Riley needed out early  on Saturday morning,  it was a lot of it , softish, not the runs though.
The next poo was soft but not so bad. Kept him on chicken that day.
Sunday morning he had a really rumbling tummy, wouldnt eat breakfast then had a short walk and did have breakfast as he was then fine.

Monday had breakfast usual of eden and little bit chicken raw mince went out for walk and had a normal poo.

This afternoon he hasnt had any more food expect a spoonfull of scrambled egg at 12ish,
He has just went to the garden and had full on runs. Really proper diarrhea this time.
He is acting fine in himself.

The only thing is last week he had some of a natural farmfood rawhide chew, now  you can see what am thinking here.
Really not sure whether to visit the vet or wait and starve him and see how he goes.

I would give the vet a call if it were me. Just to check that they are happy with the regime. I don't know about your vet but mine don't advocate starving dogs anymore. Something to do with keeping the guts working. I cannot give my two chicken when they have diarrhoea, it makes them worse! Hope you get to the erm...bottom of it!

Maybe try white fish not oily fish (cod haddock and white rice).

Could try Dorwest Tree Barks powder or slippery elm from Holland &Bsrrett. Having the same problem with Dylan at the moment. Giving him white fish, you can buy frozen skinless and boneless from most supermarkets. Also tinned pumpkin, must be unsweetened. Have also given Dylan goats yoghurt.

Hope Riley feels better soon.

Erica.

Poor Riley :-*

I use Dorwest Tree Barks Powder to help and feed scrambled egg, or poached chicken breast or white fish for a day or so.

I hope it wasn't the FarmFood rawhide. Louis usually does a larger than usual and slightly softer poo afterwards (apologies to anyone eating their tea :005:) but he's never had an upset tummy, let alone diarrhoea.

Erica, is Dylan feeling any better now? I saw your Facebook post earlier today.

Do you have any prokolin?
Title: Re: Diarrhea (tmi)
Post by: Jane57 on November 18, 2014, 09:04:36 AM
Yes I gave him a tiny bit of the prokolin last night , found it in his box and it wasnt opened.
Was up every two hours with him , poor little mite.
He hasnt been since 6am so thats the longest now he has gone. Will wait till lunchtime before deciding if a vet visit in needed.

He got a lot worse, He was vomiting and had the squits, well basically orange liquid exiting his rear at a high pressure  :o

Took to the vet who checked his temp which was fine,  his heart was fine, she gave him an ahem examination to which he deposited his diarrhea over her table along with his glands those probably needed expressing with the condition of his poo the last few days.

She mentioned the RC diet which I declined and said I would try the white fish, egg, chicken , pumpkin route .
So far he hasnt had any more of it, despite eating the fish about 2 hours ago. So we shall see.
He is still lethargic and sleeping a lot, least he isnt in pain like he was.
Thanks all.

Well he had a non disturbed night, hasnt had runs since 5.30pm last night  :D
I think the promax is doing its thing.
Another breakfast of chicken and pumpkin, will keep on light foods till he,s on the mend.
He actually played a bit there with his ball and his fox lol,  not something he did yesterday .

Might take him a little walk around the block later.
Thanks everyone.

I meant to say this morning actually, check the date on your raw chicken (I've assumed it's nature's menu from pets at home) - they often stock out of date frozen food  >:D.

If Charlie has an upset tum, I always use prokolin.

Hopefully he's better soon x

I have only one in freezer, its 2015 , I always sniff the chicken first anyway.
I dont think its that.
Im still leaning toward either a bug or that farmfood rawhide.

Fingers crossed Dylan seems better . Think his was a veal chew that was,low fat and I thought would not upset him. He had fish and pumpkin with Tree Barks powder for one meal. Then fish pumpkin and goats yoghurt. Yesterday he had a couple of tsps of his normal N I diet at,lunchtime. Things seem back to normal this morning.

Hope Riley and his tum are back to normal soon.

Erica.

Glad Dylan is on the mend. Im now debating whether to feed him at tea time. At least he isnt out every 2 hours like he was sun/mon

Is Dylan on natural instinct usually full time ? been looking at this for riley.

If you look on their website they have a list of suppliers. There might be one near you and buy just a small amount.
