Title: Puppy Number 2's suddenly inside?!
Post by: Smckenry on November 06, 2015, 08:00:55 AM
Please please please tell me this is a phase and will pass.
Luna is generally a well behaved little 8 months old (as much as a cocker can be I guess  :005:) but the last 2-3 days she has suddenly decided to start doing no.2's inside. We had had a few fireworks around so at first I thought it was that. And it's been really wet and I know she doesn't like going on the grass when soggy. But she also has access to gravel and paving stones outside, both of which she goes on regularity, and most of the time when wet. She is still doing no.1's outside.
She waits at the door, we go out, she looks around a little then wants to come back in. I turn around for 2 sec's and she goes inside. It's happened 4 times now, more or less in the same spot.
HELP!!

it could be a number of things. Have you made any changes to the routine you use? Have you changed the food you feed? When you cleared up did you use a quality ammonia free cleaner? Has something happened in the garden which may have scared Luna?

You need to look carefully at each of the questions and review what has changed as something is definitely making Luna do this. I know the weather is sometimes to blame as my post yesterday says the weather has turned our Dexter who is months old into a mad whirlwind at the moment. The other thing to remember is not to make a big issue of cleaning it up as that will not help, so carefully clean up and use a good cleaner to ensure no scent is left that can be seen as a spot to use.

Best of luck and I am sure it will pass quickly.

God I hope so! No changes to food. The only thing I can think of scaring her is the fireworks, they've not been too bad but she is still getting used to them. And it's not like it's the first time it's rained! I guess I'll just take her out when around the time she usually goes and not come back in until she goes! And maybe make a big fuss of her when she goes outside [emoji4]

Thanks 8 Hairy Feet, really hoping it's just a hiccup! Not coming into season, she was spayed about 3 weeks ago

Hopefully it is a phase that will pass quickly.

Diluted white vinegar is good at getting rid of pet odours.  Seems to me that if she is doing it in the same place then the odour needs to be removed.  Good luck!

My girl (3yrs) has changed her routine due to the Fireworks, she would usually go outside happily in the dark but not since the Fireworks started.

I have to say that I don't want her outside when the fireworks are going off anyway, I don't want her to be scared by them which I think will happen if she is outside.

Unfortunately she now wakes me up around 1 am to go outside, it's nice   >:(  and quiet then so I am being reminded of when I house trained her as a pup :005:

Bea can go a wee in seconds but a number 2 takes longer, I wonder if that is why Luna is going in the house ?

Have to agree with its.sme, so much going on at the moment with the spaying and fireworks, clocks going back etc., no wonder she is a little confused and probably a bit frightened.

Hopefully things will calm down soon.  :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

I too stay up later and let the boys out about 1ish and make sure they have 'been' before it gets dark.

Hi. Is it when its dark outside? My boy isn't at all bothered by fireworks but he doesn't like the dark. He'll only go where there is enough light. I thought it was light enough this am at about 7am but I had to stand outside and he pooed on the path where the porch light was shining.  And people say "they are descended from wolves...." ever heard of a wolf that didn't like the dark.  Its not uncommon either.

Cheers Kate

Another thing, make sure you give her a reward and praise her when she does go outside to reinforce the good behaviour ;)
