Title: Jealousy
Post by: Murphys Law on November 10, 2015, 10:02:55 PM
When Millie arrived 4 weeks ago I was always concerned that Murphy would get jealous. It turned out that I was worried about the wrong dog. Millie gets very jealous if we give Murphy any attention and starts jumping all over him and barking. I have started taking Murphy upstairs for a play with him in peace.

If Murphy picks up a toy, Millie wants it and will roll around in front of him, making strange noises and barking until Murphy has had enough and gives it up. If he moves onto another toy she wants that too.

Any advice on dealing with a jealous pup?

That's exactly what it reminds me of. Two siblings and one always wants what the other one has got.

Have had this problem with Branston and Minstrel,  on the whole they got on well - but like Millie, Branston wanted to take over and Minstrel was getting a bit fed up, not sure how we resolved it, but if Branston barges in say if Minstrel is sitting on my lap, I would get up and put Branston in the pen for a while, let him out, but put him back if he barged in again, I kept doing this till he learnt that it was better to sit elsewhere, even if it was beside us. He does eat in his pen, otherwise he would have Minstrel's dinner as well as his own.

At first, whilst on our walks I  kept Branston on his lead/in the stroller while Minstrel had a run round/play on his own.

As I say they get on well together most the time, but I do have to be vigilant and make sure little Mr Bossy Boots doesn't get all his own way.
