Louis found the head of a dead rabbit during our walk and proudly carried it round, ears poking out of one side of his mouth and nose and dislocated lower jaw poking out the other side. Every so often he'd stop to dig a hole and start burying it before changing his mind and disinterring it :005:
As we got back to the car I could see a white fluffy dog , maybe a Cockapoo, running about unsupervised while it's stupid owner sat in her car texting on her mobile and talking to her child. Louis doesn't like unknown dogs approaching him while he's on lead, so when it ran up to him barking he growled at it as best he could with a mouthful of rabbit head.
At least that got the owner's attention and she got out of her car. The conversation then went something like this:
Woman - OMG what's your dog got in his mouth?
Me (nonchalantly) - the head of a dead rabbit.
Woman - OMG, did he kill it?
Me - no, it was already dead when he found it.
Woman - Is he going to eat it?
Me - No (how I wish I'd said yes, he's having it for his tea)
Woman - OMG, OMG, I like bunnies, I don't like seeing dead ones.
At that point, small child cottons on to what he's seeing and hearing and starts screaming - IT'S A DEAD BUNNY, IT'S A DEAD BUNNY.
Apparently, according to his mum, it was somehow my fault that her son had seen a dead bunny and become upset. I gave her a dirty look and left her to it while I bribed Louis to give up the rabbit head in exchange for a treat. I even went behind a gorse bush to do the swap so that the child wouldn't see Louis drop the head.
The child looked like a Year R or Year 1 so I'll be asking my friend, who works at the local primary school, if she hears anything about one of the little ones talking about a dead bunny :lol2:
Unless the rabbit head is taken away by a fox or another dog I expect Louis will find it again in the morning. William wasn't interested in it at all. He prefers MacDonalds or KFC leftovers that people have dumped >:(

Sorry Elaine but I had a little giggle at this post, not about the child but more that the woman does not understand that a dog will always be an opportunist and take a meal whenever even if not hungry, hence the burying for later.
Well done to Louis for giving up his prize!!

O'h that has made me laugh Elaine! Can you imagine how the story's going to be expanded in school? Louis of the Baskervilles!!! :005: :005:

Louis has a history of resource guarding high value items like raw bones, which I've worked hard to train him out of by doing a nice swap instead and then usually giving the bone back to him. He was definitely reluctant to drop the rabbit head, but he only gave me a dirty look, not a growl ph34r
He was so conflicted over it, starting to bury it and then changing his mind. He's a strange little dog and sometimes tries to bury tennis balls when we're out on walks.

That is hilarious!
I would love to be there when her dog finds some "treasure" :lol2:

Elaine
I am horrified to think that this has happened to a poor child and its mother while enjoying themselves. What is the world coming to when a women with a dog wanders about with the dog boldy holding a bunny in its mouth. Furthermore it is seen as amusement to members on this site.
I can only show my utter disbelief......................... :rofl1: :rofl1: :rofl1: :rofl1: :rofl1: :rofl1: :rofl1:
A bunny loving Julie
P.S anyone got a good recipe for rabbit stew :005:

I have had a giggle too, she obviously thinks her dog would never do a thing like that!! :005:
Louis can't make his mind up -' should I save it for later or take it with me now?'
-
made me giggle, but I was so hoping you was going to say the woman thought at first it was the head of her cockerpoo. Now that would be something to shout about
-
Oooo you are wicked!!!! :005: :005:
-
Brilliant.

Elaine,
I wait with interest to see what mischief Louis The Larrikin will land you in next! These blue roan and tan boys!
I will also be scrolling through your local papers on line, wary of headlines about headless children in the New Forest! :005: That being a natural progression for a psychotic cocker, starts off with small prey - rabbits, squirrels etc, graduating to pre-school age children even whilst they are supposedly under the care of mobile phone texting junkie mothers.
Top marks to Sir William, at least HE has the decency to maintain his high sense of dignity and morality. Nothing that has been naturally (?) killed for him, oh no!, it must be the best grilled left over all beef patty or, crumbed grease filled battery chicken for him. Keep up the good work squire!

I might have been tempted to say I was going to have it for MY tea. ;) waste not, want not!

How things have changed, when I was that youngsters age we would have relieved the cocker of the head so we could take it to school on a Monday morning :D :D

I've had Bosley running around with a pigeon he was running around with, with the entrails swinging around everywhere and others looking at m and him as if OMG - I always keep moving when he finds something as he also guards it (mind you I think he enjoys that bit too as he looks disappointed when no other dog is interested in it - probably because they got fed up of him snarling at them) in the hope he might get fed up of me moving away all the time

:005: :005: that's hilarious, well done to him for giving up his booty :005:
