Well, after flapping for nearly six months about this journey to GB, Humphrey has amazed me! The vet gave us a mild dose of valium to calm him for the long drive and the ferry and he's been a little star! We put a thick blanket underneath his travel box, which raised it up a bit and also helped stop any vibrations I think, and he never made a squeak over the the 8 hour journey. We stayed in a hotel in Folkestone and he was as good as gold, staying really quiet in his box in the room while we popped down for breakfast. Since then he's had the time of his life, (met his first cocker ever since leaving his mummy), he's been on the beach, learned to swim on Cannock Chase, chased rabbits in Sutton Park and been spoilt rotten by the family! The biggest breakthrough has been that he's not cried at all in the car since, so looks like we've finally hacked it!!

Well done Humphrey! Did you have to leave him in the car below deck? Wondering how Dylan will do when we go to France next, don,t want to use the tunnel.

Humphrey - you are a star. It's amazing how often they sail they things we're convinced will be a disaster. Like the fact OH really wants to have a BBQ this weekend and I know I'll spend the whole time wrestling Henry away from... Everything.
Enjoy your trip, both of you!

Well done Humphrey - a very long journey for any dog :D Cannock Chase is a great place for dogs to learn to swim....I know quite a few on COL that did at Marquis Drive

Sounds like he's had a great time in all

That's great news, so much more pleasant when the critters behave themselves and every mile can be enjoyed rather than endured.
Well done Humphrey :cool4:

Yes Lesley, but he was in his box and we put a blanket over the top to help deaden any noise and he was fine. We'd given him several walks on the way down, and he had his kong and a chew, so was quite happy and he was rewarded with a long run on the beach afterwards (we timed it well, after May 1, dogs aren't allowed!). Return journey yesterday totalled 16 hours, as we didn't stop over, but he was really good. I'm pretty amazed really and wasn't anticipating such a carefree journey at all. I'm sure Dylan will be fine aswell! (Now we're home, he's decided being good for a week is enough and has proceeded to start digging up the garden this morning!) :005: :005:
