Pros and cons for both please
-
Sorry but they are all cockers and therefore they can be a bucket load of trouble from the start or a little angel. The best thing is to visit some breeders and pick out a puppy that you think will fit your life. Be warned that they change quickly and after a day or two of being shy and afraid all hell will be let loose and you have a fun mad cocker giving you much more to think about. This can be a very easy breed or one of the most challenging dependant on the puppy.

Before choosing my first cocker I researched the two strains - somewhere I read an article which said the fundamental difference between the two is that after a long day out walking, the show type will happily fall asleep and just as you settle down for the evening, the worker will bring you their lead for their usual walk :lol2:
Mark has a good point - they are all different with different needs and energy levels. My show type needs a 'job' to keep her mentally stimulated and is fairly high energy/on the go a lot even at 5 years old. My working cocker spaniel is now 18 months old and in a different league energy wise - mx5 v Ferrari :005:
A great deal depends on what you want to do with your dog? If you are looking for a companion with lower exercise needs a show type may be the answer although be prepared that they need grooming every week (every day if you want them to have long feathers). If you want to do agility, fly ball, scent work, trailing, or work the dog then the wcs may be better for you. Either way, I cannot emphasise the need to research lines - as Mark says, at all hinges on the breeding! IMO ;)

For me you just can't beat the facial expression, the wonderful ears and the head shape of the show type.
People will pull up and get out, just to look at this dog!

Looks wise, I much prefer the look of a worker over a show cocker. To me it is like comparing the sleek lines of a Ferrari to a Ford Focus estate. I prefer the look of working dogs in general (retrievers, springers etc) to their show counterparts.
Energy wise, my worker Millie just wants to run and run, then run a bit more. Murphy just happily plods along on his walks. But both of them will happily walk for hours or settle for a quick 45 minute walk. Millie always chills out in the evening, even if she hasn't had a long walk.

Well I have a Ford Focus estate AND a show cocker!! (Who wants a Ferrari anyway!!)
:005: :005: :005:

I think the answer to the OPs question is - all of the above!
I love my goofy-looking show cocker, but I think the workers are absolutely stunning. So elegant. With a manic gleam in their eyes, each and every one.

Nothing wrong with a Ford Focus but I wouldn't swap a Ferrari for one
Show cockers are lovely looking dogs, all spaniels are in my opinion. I just prefer the looks of working dogs.

Some one on this forum once wrote "don't buy a race horse when you really need a pony" strong FT working strains can be a handful even for experienced dog owners. Devil Dog Teal has just run and hunted for 4 hours during a coastal path walk that has left me and the Mrs shattered we did 8 miles and Teal probably did 25 and now she is telling me she needs her evening walk.

Another Dexter look alike too, love the show type.

I love how the nose looks on a golden cocker - so distinct from the rest of their snout, it really gives those faces such personality.
-
I just love them all :luv: but I know that I couldn't keep up with a typical worker :005:
-
Yes, they are all lovely but a worker would be too energetic for me... hard enough with Mollie's energy!! :005: :005:
-
Just to add Millie is a show cocker and loves flyball. However after a day of flyball - she is like this the next day!
