I’ve just been approved to adopt a former breeding bitch, Lizzie, from Many Tears Animal Rescue. She’s a four year old golden show cocker. She’ll be coming home once she’s been spayed. She’ll be on kibble to start with as that’s what she’s given at the rescue centre. I’m planning to gradually add some chicken and white fish but I need a long term plan for nutrition and supplements as she’s in need of building up. My previous dog (working Springer) was on raw food with vegetables and supplements and thrived on it, but raw won’t be appropriate for Lizzie. Just can’t wait to have her home.

I think maybe Many Tears may well be best to advise however, we do have several members who have dogs from Animal Rescues including Many Tears and I am sure they will answer.
For me my little boy was quite bonny as a young dog and I was told by my vet that pure peanut butter was good, so I went down that route, he had about a teaspoon per day, and still has it in a morning on a carrot stick.
It must be pure peanut butter - I use Nuts about You from Tesco - it needs a good stir as oiler than non pure.
The other thing was cooked sweet potato, the chicken and white fish is a good sound idea, but chicken breast as brown meat can make them loose.

Thank you, that’s a good tip re the chicken. I’ve bought her a couple of licky mats, I’ll get some pure peanut butter. No xylitol! I’ll also have a chat with Many Tears. I was also thinking I’d introduce a good quality fish oil - but gradually so it doesn’t upset her tum.
