Title: Eating rubber balls
Post by: Finvarra on October 01, 2024, 01:32:21 PM
Dylan is 9 now and has not really been a scavenger (unless someone drops food). On Saturday in a local park he picked up half a broken tennis ball (without fluff) and we had a real job to get it out of his mouth, he had a really good chew. We’re in the same park on Sunday, and saw him chewing something but by the time we got to him it was gone.
Today (Tuesday), he was heaving, and brought up pieces of the rubber ball. He's a little bit quiet, but otherwise seems OK, and still wants his food. I'm a bit concerned there may still be some in his stomach, any thoughts?

Oh Dylan,  :shades: no the sort of behaviour we‘d expect from a big boy  of your age!

I think if it was me,and provided he‘s generally well, I‘d hang on until the next pooh tomorrow morning and see what appears. I‘ve heard of labradors swallowing nearly a whole ball which has caused an obstruction but if Dylan’s not a scavenger and doesn’t just wolf things down, from what you‘ve described, it sounds more as if he‘s chewed off smaller bits which will (hopefully) be broken down and passed through. Obviously not easy to know exactly but sometimes these things  sort themself.
best of Luck , do  keep us posted, fingers crossed!  :bigarmhug:

Oh Dylan you imp. I think him bringing up some will have cleared what was lying on his tummy and likely he will pass the rest.

They really do get something in there heads, and he really has decided the walks have a a new reward.  Harry saw a duck startled by the river bank - now I have to keep him on the lead till we are well passed area or one dripping cocker.  Maybe a new walk for a few days (or more) to get it out of his head.

Just keep an eye on him and if he is eating the new food should help work things through :005:

He's back to his normal 'bouncy' self now (see what I did thereJ so hope he's got it out of his system. Not like him at all, he has no interest in balls at all.
They do remember, Jaysmum, he went straight to where he's found the first half on Saturday to look for the second half!
Oh well, another crisis over  :lol2:
