Title: Biting & attacking us when leaving the house
Post by: darylr on January 17, 2025, 12:25:35 PM
Hi,
We have a 3 yr old male cocker (castrated) who doesn’t like it when we get ready to leave the house to go out. He senses when we’re getting ready then gets incredibly aggressive and will go for us and has bitten us both. Most of the time he’s an affectionate boy, but he doesn’t like you going too close to his or his ears being stroked either.
Is this behaviour dominance or is he simply scared of being left alone ? He’s absolutely fine when we leave the house, as he settles down in the kitchen (we have a cocker cam). It’s now gotten to the point where we want to rehome him, although it’ll break my heart he is a lovely boy, we simply can’t trust him around family.
Any advice regarding his behaviour would greatly appreciated.

Daryl

Really a strange one this, I am not sure what to say.  It is such a decision to make to rehome your loved pet-yet with children I can understand why you think this.

I would say however, that I think maybe a chat with a dog behaviourist, some times your vet has knowledge of good ones in your area or RSPCA have list on there site.

Finally just a thought about his ears and touching them. could he have an infection or ear mites, cockers are so problematic with ears.

Hope someone else comes along with some sound advice.
