Title: American Cocker Spaniels - Blueroan Color

I wonder if COL People noticed that they have blueroan colored Am-cocker spaniels in the states.

Post by: Jane S on September 14, 2005, 08:57:31 AM: I've heard it suggested that some English Cocker blood has been introduced to get this colouring in American Cockers. No idea if this is true ;) Having said that, roan is permitted in the AKC standard so blue roan is an acceptable colour in Americans (inheritance would be the same as for an English Cocker)

Post by: Shirley on September 14, 2005, 08:32:45 PM: Don't think I could cope with one (whatever the colour :) ) They are lovely but what a job, if it decided it loved mud and twigs - english cocker, full coat is difficult enough to manage after an 'interesting' walk :D

There is a clipped off pet American, that lives in Tunbridge Wells. If it were a Cocker, I would describe it as a Blue Roan.

Really, perhaps it's just heavily ticked? I know I was talking to an American Cocker breeder a while ago about blue roan Yankies & she said there weren't any in the UK but she'd quite like one if only she could afford to import one :D

I would say one is orange and white and the other is black and white but when I stopped to have a chat with them a while ago they told me they were roans? (like Jessie is what they said!!?!! ;) )

I tried to say they couldn't be but they had obviously been told they were and wouldn't listen. :rolleyes:

They are lovely dogs and the same age as my two but much more well behaved. They can walk them both together with one hand holding both leads and there isn't any pulling at all.....they havent had one training class either....its just not fair :( Ive spent a small fortune on lessons and both of mine pull like trains!! :lol:

About the pulling - after much perseverence, we have now got 100% success with the halti harness!!! No more pulling!!!! Yay!!! :lol: :lol: :lol: ..have you tried anything like that? I know it doesn't work for everyone.........

Maybe I'm doing it wrong I don't know but it was humiliating walking along when they were in a wierd pose :lol: .

We ended up with a liver roan english cocker, english cockers are rare here and even rarer to find a liver roan we didnt plan on it but it just worked out that way. I bet there is a blue roan american cocker out there some where for you.

Where you are it seems that the Americans our less popular and generally harder to find.

My reasons for getting an English was one I do like they way the look better than the Americans. (no offence to ACS owners) Also as they are less popular I figured less of a chance for temperment and or breeding problems.

Gotta run Joey is asking for his walks now. :D

Yes in the UK, American Cockers are very popular in the show ring but are not bred in the huge numbers that Cockers (English Cockers) are over here. Only a handful of litters are registered each quarter for Americans compared with hundreds for Cockers. I can't see that any roan Americans have been registered in recent years over here - they'd be easy to spot with so few litters ;)

my daughter has just come back from toronto where she was staying with relatives and they were looking after a 20 wk golden english cocker who is as psycho as paddy :lol: :lol:

I see a number of Am-Cockers here; Molo was on his puppy class with a little B & W, there is a solid black at the school gates every morning and I see two or three goldens on walks. I wonder if they are more popular here for some reason - we don't have any breeders on the Island as far as I know......?
