Title: Show Gundog Working Certificate
Post by: sportsmonki on October 15, 2005, 05:11:13 PM
would anyone know where I could find a list of cockers who have attained their show gundog working certificate?  or  would anyone know of lines of show cockers who are doing particularly well in gundog trials or agility.  I only know of a couple of show dogs who have their gundog working certificates, and they are not really what I am looking for.

I work my girl in obedience (where she is frequently the only cocker at the show) and she has done quite well this season (particularly considering she has had to put up with such an inexperienced handler...myself).  I am trying to find lines of show cockers who do well in conformation classes but would also have the ability to excel in other disciplines such as obedience, gundog trials or lower stakes of working trials and/or agility, and would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Thank you all for your time,

sportsmonki

I'm not sure there are distinct lines that excel in the fields you mention - often it comes down to individual dogs & their owner's dedication & training ability. I could give you a list (fairly short) of Cockers who have qualified in the field as well as in conformation over the last 20 years or so but the lines are quite diverse (and shared by many show Cockers who have not attained any Working qualifications ;)) Gill Pearce-Gudger & Sue Cox are two current show breeders with an interest in working their dogs - I believe a daughter of Bitcon Troubador belonging to Sue was the first Cocker to attain the new Show Gundog Working Certificate. If you wanted more info, these 2 ladies would be the best people to speak to (PM me if you want their contact details)

Hi Jane,

Thank you so much for the reply :)  That would be awesome, I have sent you a pm.

Thank you also for the information you posted here...it is very much appreciated.  That is very interesting that the first cocker to attain their show gundog working certificate was a daughter of Sh Ch Bitcon Troubador...he feature in my girl's pedigree twice :)
