Title: Jaffa wee wees
Post by: jaffajuice on October 29, 2006, 10:30:58 AM
Hello there everyone,

This is our newly acquired dog Jaffa. We got him 2 weeks ago and he is now 11 weeks old.

Our main issue is toileting, Initially we provided pads by the door so that he could `relieve himself` which seemed to go swimmingly. However, we have introduced toileting outside in the evening an daytime. Since then he has taken to peeing anywhere over the kitchen without giving us the notice signs he used to before.

He is drinking plently of water and appears to have light coloured wee.

Should this be anything we should be particularly worried about?  :-\

It would be great to hear your thoughts...

Kind regards

Hi and welcome to COL.  :D

We stopped using puppy pads/paper training very early on as we felt it taught the puppies to wee inside rather than outside.  :-\
Instead we took them outside at very regular intervals. After eating, after playing, when they woke up, after a drink etc. and if they began to sniff the floor in between those times. We stayed outside with them until they 'performed' and gave them lots of praise and a treat when they did.  :D
If they did toilet indoors, we just cleaned it up and didn't say anything as we felt it was our fault for not watching them carefully enough, not theirs.
It is very hard work to begin with - well time consuming anyway.  :005: We had to watch them like a hawk and I swear I was puppy trained long before they were toilet trained.  ::) And just when you begin to think they will never get it, it all falls into place.  :D
Good luck.

Hi....Jaffa is weeing anywhere as he dosen't know where you want him to go, now you have removed the pads. You have trained him to go on the pads so know you have to train him again to go outside.....My advice is watch the pup like a hawk..take him outside every hour and also after sleeping, eating, playing etc....stand outside with him and when he does a wee plenty of praise(must stress praise when he his having a wee not after as he wont realise what he is being praised for if you wait till hes done it). Ignore any accidents in the house and he'll soon pick up where you want him to toilet..

We nicknamed Penny "Penny Piddles" when we got her as she seemed to find it really difficult both lasting for a wee and going outside to do it. If you are not worried about Jaffa's energy levels and he seems to be behaving in a manner you would expect from a pup his age then the colour of his urine is nothing to be bothered about. The more he drinks as like us the paler it will become. The first wee in the morning will be much darker in colour and that is normal.
It's as Rhona says it's routine and persistance and very soon he will go outside to use the toilet.
