Warm jacket, umbrella and then a lovely warm room to come back into! ;)

Sorry. We got Buddy in February and remember it all too well!!!!! Not much alternative really though.

Sympathies.  I had to housetrain Millie with three feet of snow on the ground.  I remember digging a channel and clearing a space for the pee-spot!   :005: :005: I am afraid an umbrella, a lovely warm towel waiting and a really good treat is the only game in town.  Training to paper and hoping the rain will stop is just prolonging the agony IMO. Good luck!

Yes, I am looking forward to that as we are getting our puppy at the end of February... thick jacket and waterproof/umbrella will be top fashion for me for a while...  :005:

Even though I got Ruby at the start of the summer it was very very wet --- so I used to be out there at midnight in full waterproofs or with umbrella getting her to go to the toilet. She hated it but got there in the end and also now she doesn't mind the wet so will go out in all weathers either to the toilet or for walks. You have to go out there yourself with them in the beginning

You'll also have to brave bad weather when you begin walking them as well (as adults, cockers do need more than just a quick walk round the block) --- it rained the whole of last week here in buckefulls but I was out with my two for 2 hours each day in heavy rain and high winds (on saturday they were out for 4 hours in the rain and loved it)

yep - same advice here I'm afraid - get used to it!! We got Max in July 05 & it peed down for much of it -  toilet training was a pretty wet affair!!  :005:

We considered paper training first due to the reasons you've posted.

But have to agree that we'd probably just prolong the training if did that so have been forcing ourselves to go outside.
Benji's only been with us for 2 and a half weeks so it's early days yet.

My Mum trained our family dog on paper and gradually moved towards the kitchen door before outside etc and it took 1 year to train him....although from what I hear this could potentially happen even when toilet training outside. Down to each individual dog I s'pose.

Good luck!!

You didn't mention how old the puppy was, but you will find, if you pay close attention, that puppies are pretty regular and predictable as to when they have to go. So watch when you pup drinks, then watch to see how long it takes till they pee. Same with poo, see how long after a meal till he needs to poo. You will actually see a method to the madness if you pay attention, and time your trips outdoors accordingly

I've found winter puppies to be easiest to housebreak as they want to do their business and get back inside quick! :005:

Maddy is a "bad weather" weather girl, the harder it is raining and the srtonger the wind the more she loves it, that all came from very wet cold toilet training.
She is a complete wuss when it is hot and looks at me as if to say "you don't expect me to go out in THAT heat surely"
Good luck, I found the pyjamas, dressing gown big thick coat and boots look was quite a warm one. :005:
