Title: Byron's nose
Post by: lexi on February 04, 2007, 04:28:05 PM
Byron is a gold sable ECS. A breeder here told me he has a "Wechselnase" which is, loosely translated, a "changeable nose".
It can go from being a solid dark to a two-tone. This is what it looks like at the moment:

A change in the weather seems to have an influence. Does anyone know more about this?

P.S. The pads on his feet are all dark (and stay that way!) :D

Hmmm...our ruby cavalier gets this when she has been 'snuffling' too much, but I'm not sure if it is the same thing?  My blenheim used to get it in the winter too...I think it was the central heating made her nose a bit dry and the colour seemed to fade a bit.

It's called snow nose and is common in certain breeds and certain colours. Quite a few lighter cockers get it. Afaik - only reds/oranges or golds though - but I could be wrong. ;)

Also known as a 'winter nose'. The pigment looks as if it has washed out....happens to our Chloe (gold). Never happens to my Harvey though  :-\

2 of my orange roans have this only with one of them, their original colour has never returned despite trying supplements

Same here, all my orange girls have slightly brown noses, but my blues and black & white have really black noses.

The funny thing is that Holly, who is an orange roan, has a nose that is completely uniform in colour.

They don't all have it and those that do have it to varying degrees ;) Some go very pale indeed whereas others will just have little patches or fade only slightly. My Bud's has it but it doen's pale too much.
