Hi everyone, I'm new here and sorry allready desperatley wanting info if anyone else has experience of this.
My gorgeous dog Ollie, who is now 6 became poorly on Sunday, he vomited several times and quickly deteriorated over the night. Took him to the vets Monday morning, who said he was very ill, gave him an antibiotic, and an anti-emetic and we had to return Tuesday. He vomited again over Monday night, so the vet kept him for the day yesterday not giving me much hope ! He has had lots of bloods done, the only thing they showed was an increased white cell count, x-rays and deep palpation. He was on a drip yesterday. But although he hasn't vomited again so far ! he seems so ill, not interested in anything at all, muscles trembling/twitching all over. I'm due at the vets again in an hour.........but I'm so worried as they dont know the cause, the tests have showed nothing.
Have any of you any similar experiences ?
Sorry it's not a happy first post, but I'm at my wits end :embarassed:

I am so sorry to hear about Ollie. I haven't a clue what it may be but a high white cell count means his body is fighting some infection somewhere I would imagine. If he has stopped being sick that is a good thing and I would imagine he does still look sorry for himself seeing as he was so poorly. I hope all goes well when you go to the vets. Let us know, won't you? Thinking of you

Sorry, no advice, but there seems to be a lot of that kind of thing happening if you look at recent threads.
Hoping Ollie gets well soon :luv:
and welcome to COL :D

Welcome to the forum but so sorry your first post is a worried one.
My dog has had something similar the last couple of days, and was on a drip overnight, he seems to be slowly on the mend now. It is horrible seeing them like that, they seem so low and depressed.
Ollie is in the best place at the moment. Hope your visit this morning was a positive one. Please let us know how he gets on :luv:

Thankyou so much for your posts
After posting on here, Ollie was vomiting again, when I got to the vets he couldn't even walk up the steps, I have to say I was beside myself in the vets :embarassed: The vet said that the only option was to open him up, as he didn't feel he could last much longer as he was, but did stress the anaesthetic was a high risk in his condition.
I have to say I've been frantic with worry, but the vet has just rang up, there was a blockage in his bowel, he found something which looks like the stalk from a plant or vegetable (Ollie is a terrible scavenger, my bin even has a lock on it !). He is awake from the anaesthetic, and on a drip to rehydrate him again. I can collect him sometime after 6pm. He still needs to be closely watched for the next few days as there is a high risk of infection apparently from his bowel contents............but I am sooooo relieved that they found something.
A very optimistically happy Annie
Ps. I'm really glad that your dog is on the mend Elisa  it is so worrying when they are ill.

Poor you and poor Ollie. I'm glad the vets have got to the root of the problem. fingers crossed for you that he is now going to be ok. Let us know how he gets on.

So pleased that they now know what it is  At least now with care, he will start to mend. I spent 7 years caring for my sick pup and I know what a worry it is and how your heart breaks when you think they will not make it so I am delighted for you ;)

Hello just to give you an update on Ollie,
Unfortunatley he did develop an infection, has needed to visit the vets daily and spent all yesterday on a drip. He cannot keep any food down at all. They are now talking about either opening him back up, or doing an ultrasound to find out whats happening inside.
Who would have thought that a vegetable stalk could cause so much damage ?
-
Oh poor Ollie and poor you.
I thought he would be on the road to recovery now.
Thinking of you both and hoping he turns the corner soon and doesn't need another operation.
Lots of healing thoughts and gentle squishes coming Ollies way.

What a nightmare for you all :-\
I really hope Ollie is back on his feet and feeling better very soon :luv:

So sorry to hear this. You must be frantic. Hope Ollie starts to improve really soon

At last Good News
Yesterday they opened him back up and found that his bowel had formed an adhesion causing it to kink.....hence all the problems
He's eaten a very small amount today and managed to keep it down  We've been for a check up tonight and the vet finaly thinks he's going to be fine :D
He's feeling very sorry for himself today (and rightly so) but we've had a few tail wags....something we've not had for the past few days.
I'll post some pic's as soon as I can figure out how.
Thankyou all for your messages !
