Probably right at the top of my 10 reasons as to why I will always have a cocker in my life, is the comedy and mischief they practise daily. So I wondered what particular things about your cockers make you laugh, giggle and cry?
The thing that's most making me and my son giggle a lot is Dave's current trick of living up to his 'Bandit' name. He bounds along a forest path in front of the rest of us in his very ungainly, unproductive puppy sprint then leaps into the undergrowth, hides, then keeps perfectly still and quiet. As you walk past him he either silently and intently watches you pass him ph34r (mislead in his very confident thought that absolutely no one can see him) or he waits until we are right alongside him and pounces out like an armed robber full of surprise and cunning :005: Then bounds off ahead to do it all over again :005: :luv:
So come on.. what are your cocker funnies?

Currently....
the way Harry does a lap of honour around the flower bed if he manages to catch the frisbee in mid air!!
If he picks it up from the ground, he just comes straight back, but if he catches it, it has to be proudly paraded for everyone before being brought back to us. :005: :005: :005:
-
Every time I lay down Rommels blanket, he has to lay on it before I have finished spreading it out. No matter what he is doing, he will stop it to muck it up.
Also, if we are playing fetch and I dont grab the ball or toy off him quick enough. He will trot away with it looking over his shoulder at me.
-
As usual barney's is with his obsession for food! ::)
Before I leave for work we have one last run up the field each morning. Milly loves this and has to be called back when it is time to go. Barney knows that it ends with them going to bed and getting a small piece of dog treat. He watches very crefully and as soon as I turn towards the house he charges back, hops through the dog flap and into bed. One morning i had just gone through the door when i realised I had forgotten the rubbish i was going to take to the bin. barney having just come out through the door was straight through the dog flap when he saw me turn and sitting in bed waiting for his treat! :005:

when shes had a bath - which she absolutely hates and stands there looking as though shes been sentenced to the guillotine - and eventually scrambles out, then comes the bit she LOVES!
I wrap her in a towel and rub her all over, whilst shes wiggling with joy and throwing herself around, trying to grab the towel and making these little squeaks of pleasure!! shes so funny, we often go on towelling her, long after shes dry!
-
With Louie AKA the cocker Hippo - if I didn't laugh I'd cry :005:
Come on - EVERY walk if there is mud, he's in it over his head - literally >:D
Jasper just for being there and being the daftest lap dog ever and for telling Louie off if he's gone too far from us on a walk!
-
Just by her facial expressions!
I didn't realise quite how many diferent expressions dogs have! I get happy, sad, patronsing, fed up, excited, tired and many more all within minutes!
I had a classic look last night. I was laying at one end of the sofa whilst Ruby was at the other. I nudged her to get her attention and, boy, what a look! Ruby is just so superior at times!
But it's so funny! ;)
-
Everything really, but Jarvis is rather a vocal boy, so it's probably his talking that makes me laugh the most. He comes out with the most incredibly growl/grumble/moany noises. :luv: I must record them oneday, they're spectacular. :shades:
-
Skye is now nearly 8 months.
She is a solid black show type and is having bad hair days at the moment..... its growing but sticking up - especially on the top of her head.
We think she looks like Albert Einstein :luv:
I will try to pop a photo on soon.
-
Jake was chasing a bird at the beach on Sunday. So intent was he on catching that bird that he didn't notice he'd run into the sea. When he realised, he stopped dead and turned round to look at me. The expression on his face was priceless, a kind of "Oooh, mum, what've I done - I'm all wet". Then, of course, he bounded back to me and shook himself so that I got a nice little shower.
Hilarious!!
-
Kali snaps at the flies through the patio windows :005:
-
Hurley always makes me smile.
The fact that he gets so excited when playing chasing games - he quite literally cannot contain his excitement and barks with real gusto - constantly :shades:
When I arrive home from work he always has to pick up his ball/ kong/ busy buddy and walk around me in circles, wagging his tail :luv:
When we are out walking he likes to play catch and so will come up to me with the ball and instigate play so that I chase him
When he's had enough on a walk he runs ahead and lies down 'spatchcock' and waits for me to catch up
-
Sally no matter where she starts off in the bed always manages to wriggle her way up until she is sandwiched between me and OH with a look of pure bliss on her face. Her spinning in circles while howling her head off when you get home brings a smile to any tired face.
Glen when he sulks because you are busy and not focusing all your attention on him. When he wakes you up by dropping a tennis ball on your head. The way he has to get a cuddle half way up the stairs no matter what you are carrying at the time.
They both make me smile countless times a day just by being the demanding minxes that they are :luv:
-
Tia absolutely loves her chicken wings and as soon as we say 'chicken' time she begins to perform all the tricks she knows without being told. She will start twisting in mid air, lie down, sit up, give paw, high 5, roll over, jump in chair etc.. It is so funny to watch, if she could speak I'm sure she'd be saying "look I've done all my tricks just gimmee the chicken" !! :005: :005:
She too has numerous facial expressions but the one that makes me laugh is her 'frown' or 'disgruntled' look >:(
I also have to giggle when she gives herself a mohican when rolling about and digging the carpet and looks at me laughing at her as if to say "what"!!
-
At the moment Sam loves to run through the leaves, especially very large piles that have been swept up by the parkies!! The other day I actually thought he was going to 'drown' in the leaves as the pile was huge!! I was Peeing myself with laughter.
He also makes very long strange noises which has me in stiches!!
-
This is a great thread.
With Murphy I love the way he cocks his head to the side when I'm talking to him, as if he is really listening to me, and cuddles me if I'm upset.
Maddi is just at that stage where things are always new, and she just cracks me up.
But when you mention walks, they go daft - and I want them to sit and get their collars on, and they look at me like - Mum you try sitting down when your tail is going this fast, it's not like I have any control over it!! :luv:
They do so many things that just make me laugh and shake my head. I could list all day long........
-
Fargo cracks me up when I try to get him to 'speak'. Somehow when I tried to teach him to bark to the 'speak' command, he learnt to sneeze instead :shades: so I get a series of sneezes when it should be barks - but he tries so hard I can't help but laugh :005:
Bless him :luv:
-
I smile every morning when I see Max has put
my his cuddly toys in a circle on the bed so they're wrapped all around him :luv:
(I then put them in a row so he has to do it all over again the next night ph34r)
He also makes me laugh when someone nearby uses a clicker, he'll go & sit infront of them flashing his long eye lashes expecting a treat :005:
-
With Rodaidh it's his facial expressions. He has the squishiest, most expressive little face, he's the Jim Carrey of dogs and his every emotion and thought is registered loud and clear. He does a particularly good 'surprised' face which cracks me up. He sleeps with me at night and will charge up the stairs ahead of me and sit expectantly at the top as I got into a habit of giving him his bedtime biscuit there and now he's learned it, it's like paying a toll to go up my own stairs :005:
I think it's the way the three of them interact that really gets me though, they are very funny together, particularly Alfie and Tilly. Tilly 'owns' the chair beside the window in the living room, she sits on it to see out the window during the day and sleeps on it every night. So on Monday night she was there as usual and then she jumped down to go and get a drink and Alfie took his chance and got on her chair. Tilly came back into the living room, walked over and clocked him on there and literally did a double take. She looked at him then looked at me as if to say 'what the..??' then she sat down and stared at him (Alfie was curled up oblivious) and then looked at me again with her head on one side. She then came over and jumped onto the settee, climbed over the arm and onto 'her' chair and plonked her big bum right on top of Alfie and just sat there. Poor Alfie is the ultimate pacifist and after being rudely awakened with 18kg of fuzzy brown butt on him just wriggled out from under her and came over to me with his usual gormless 'Mum what's going on?' expression while Tills did a couple of victory turns before snuggling down on her chair again with a huge groan of contentment :shades:

I'm really enjoying this thread!
Lottie cracks me up all the time but last night we were practising for her bronze award test next Monday. I asked her to sit and stay and while I moved away she started waving her paw at me. I've also been asking for her paw at meal times. She looked so pathetic pawing at me the whole time that I cracked up before the minute and she came over wagging her tail :005:
-
I love when Wherry smiles and when she gets really excited to see you and does free-running across the sofas and figure of 8s across the floor bouncing off the sofas at either end (Norty doggie ph34r ) :005:
-
Macy has a treat ball, so when she decides she wants to play with it she picks it up and throws it on my knee until i put treats in it, once i've put the treats in she pushes it along the floor with her nose and stops in her tracks and stares at the ball waiting for a treat to fall out! If she cant get all her treats out she again picks it up and throws it at me until i get the treats out! Also if my 0H howls at her, it sets her off and she walks round the living room with her head back howling away! There's so many things that makes me laugh, i could go on and on! ;)
-
too many things about barkley make me laugh. he can be quite a serious chap at times but then the next minute is living up to his barkers nickname by doing something completely daft. :luv:
one thing that i hope he never grows out of is the way that he will often go and find a toy or piece of leftover rawhide chew and start to chuck it about, stalk it, pounce on it, all the while snorting and play bowing. it can go on for ages and leaves me convinced that anyone who thinks dogs don't have an imagination is very mistaken. :)
-
this is just the thread I needed today - made me smile :luv:
Ben is a real clown - but my favourite thing is at night when its time for the last visit to the garden before bed, he knows I'm going to turf him out into the cold, he squeezes his eyes shut and lies really still like he is asleep, but I know he's not because his tail wags as I get closer and closer, and then when I'm stood beside him he just has to open his eyes to see whats happening and it gives the game away :005: then he rolls on his back and wiggles really exitedly until I convince him its time to go out. He does it every night without fail - and it still makes me laugh every time, even after 4 years :luv:

Our little girl Chloe, she used to throw herself back and sit like a meerkat. Here is an example.

I know she looks really fat but it was the steroids. Actually, she looked more like Tommy Cooper!

:005: :005: :005:
All these cocker tales making me chuckle!!
Poppy should have been named after one of the Girlie Wombles as she just loves to litter collect at the moment :005: It makes me laugh how she proudly walks along with a discarded plastic bottle saying look at me I'm soooooo cleaver :005:
Giving us pleanty of practice of the "Drop" command though

Great stories, I'm glad there are so many daft little dogs out there!
Pepper knows the command 'go for puddles' for when he has to pee. If he cant be bothered he tries to fool us by just running in and out pretending he's been so gets sent back until we can see he's done. Sometimes he just cant be bothered going out in the cold so dives past me back into the house or if he see's i'm paying attention just barks to get in!
Lily is a right little show off. Every time I stand up she jumps up on me for attention and stretches out so you cant move away cos she'd fall. Clever little poser. She knows fine well she looks cute doing it too....
In the morning she patiently lie's right beside my face and gently noses me with her wet nose to wake me up. As soon as I make the slightest movement her tail starts wagging so hard the bed wobbles so I cant get back to sleep!
The dogs at daycare have me in stitches every single day with the daft things they do. Today it was Rodaidh doing crazy laps all by himself around the field about ten times :005:
-

Yup, Griffin does this, as if he's really concentrating on what I'm saying.
He's so funny at training class too. If he gets fed up of the training he goes floppy and lies on the floor. He refuses to sit or stand and after any attempt I make to posistion him he just flumps back down. I try to be firm but its hard when you're giggling.
-
His I've got springs when he wants something that is out of reach, his ears going round make me laugh every time.

Great thread by the way!

Aww bless him, did he do his 'crazy puppy' turn? :luv:
-
He did indeed, he must have had his weetabix this morning! He was loony all day long, kept leapfrogging the other dogs and going daft with a teddybear! :luv:
-
My old dog Piper, in his youth used to have a large orange space hopper than the kids had outgrown. He would grab the handle, run around the garden and then bounce himself off the garden fence, tumble over several times then still with the handle in his mouth do it all again. It was an unbelievable image :005:

Bless her!!!! That is EXACTLY why I got my first cocker! I looked after a friends cocker for the weekend and he was sitting on the front seat of the car next to me as we drove off to go to the woods for our walk and half way through the drive he tapped me on the arm with his paw, I looked at him and he sat up like a squirrel and just looked at me with this blank expression! I nearly crashed the car laughing :005: That sold cockers to me :luv:

:005: :005: Chloe used to do it all the time. She would give the appealing look at the same time. Bless, they are hilarious aren't they?
-
Not a single days goes by without a good laugh, living in a house full of cockerspaniels :luv: :005:
-
Milly cracked us up this afternoon when we came back from the woods, she decided to charge back and fore from one end of the kitchen to the other, this went on for a good 10 minutes and she seemed totally oblivious to us laughing our head off, not to mention poor Paddy hiding under the table wondering what the hell had got into her, he just sat there watching as much to say I ain't goin near her she's crazyyyyy.
Paddy is so laid back; I love when he is happy and gives a big smile, you don't even need to look at him when your out, you can tell by his breathing that he is having a ball and is smiling from ear to ear. Aw bless :luv:

Holly makes me laugh when she sits back on the settee and uses her paw to drag my hand to her belly for a tickle. She also makes me laugh when she has a mad moment rubbing herself all over the cushions and throws herself about when she thinks that no ones looking.
Sadie makes me laugh when she puts her head under a blanket or coat and just freezes and waits for you to take it off. When she hears you say anything remotely like the word squirrel she pricks up her ears and dashes out of the dog flap from where ever she is.
Pippa is such a flirt and the bigger the dog the better but then if it takes an interest she comes tearing back to me and jumps with a please mum pick me up look.
Cockers to me mean fun, laughter and love

Just have to add: BEWARE what you teach your dogs.
Once I taught Helmi to touch my nose with hers. Well, you never know how it ended :shades:. I was watching tv, eating a sandwich and then suddenly saw something black and white approaching from the left, quickly touching my nose.. And run off, with my sandwich!!
On another occasion, I was eating popcorn and Helmi brought me a sock she had found. Without much thinking, I gave her one popcorn and took the sock. Well, she was very quick to learn. Now everytime I have popcorn popping in the microwave Helmi goes and collects a pile of socks (she opens the drawer and takes them from there). She wants to be ready when the popcorn comes out :005:.
Helmi is the naughtiest dog (and also the funniest and most clever one) I've ever owned and on many occasions I have been ready to take her back to her breeder (but then I realised I've bred the bloody thing myself) but I can only love her (you really shoud see the "wasn't me" faces she pulls).
Helmi is also very scilled in blaming others for the things she's done. Once I went to the living room, saw Helmi chewing on the remote control. When Helmi saw me she practically threw the remote to the sofa where Viggo was sleeping ::) and tried to look very innocent herself..
-
We laugh at our 2 all the time but the story we tell the most is the one where ~Cassie is obsessed with swimming and if we go on an evening walk we don't want her to go in river and be wet for bed so on lots of occasions she has got her ball and actually thrown/dropped it in herself so she can go and get it :005:
Maisie bless her is funny her character has really come through now ~when walking the other day we saw a lady we know and Maisie has a tendency to sit on your feet as we talked to this lady she decided to back up and sit on hers and whoops a wee came out and the lady had crocs on (with holes) ph34r :005:
But they do make us laugh if we didn't laugh we would cry especially through the early puppy hood stages!!!!
-
Pippa and Sadie have learnt how to open my rubbish bin but only when it is nearly full.
One sunday evening we were sitting in the front room and Pip came bounding in all pleased with herself, jumped up on the settee and presented me with the lamb bone she had just stolen from the bin - she's not the brightest of dogs :005:
-
well done hannah..a happy topic to hit the mark!!..where do you start....the waggy pleased bum wiggle in the morning and taking a toy out proudly for the first pee of the day? :lol:The loud snoring and inelegant sprawling over the sofa..she came and sat on my neck tonight!!!...no...guess my best joy.and amusement is watching her in total ecstasy bunny hopping in the forest..it almost looks choreographed!! :luv: She flies!! Hop..Hop Hop.......or one two three lickerty split ...BOIIIIIIIng! Love it love it...makes me chuckle to see that boundless energy!"!! :005:....So...now you know!! ;)
-
yesterday afternoon me and connor were sitting on the back step waiting for sam to have a wee. connor had a car in his hand, everytime he'd push it back and for on the step sam would run up to the back fence speed back and zoom through in between us and jump into his bed. me and connor were wetting ourselves so repeat the above about a hundred times :005:
-
I love it when we are all sat around the boardroom table having a discussion, then THAT SMELL hits you and we are all holding our noses and laughing as Whistler looks up as if to say "wasn't me!!" and buggers off in the other office.
And the moaning when he has to go out for a wee and he is sooo comfortable.
The ears are a hoot! flying along when he runs, and the look when they have a toy in their mouth and they look up showing the whites of their eyes "please play with me i'm good" look. priceless.

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh Trev used to do that I LOVED it.. it he looked like an athletic flying kangaroo with his ears out as stabilisers :luv: It always made my son collapse into fits of giggles (even from when he was only about 1 yr old)... through a cornfield was always the best because you never knew where he was going to appear next :005: :luv:

On a similar theme - Jasper trying to jump up on to our bed...... :005:
It usually takes him about three attempts - he jumps a bit higher and his ears flap a bit more with each jump until he's on to claim his cuddles.
He tries to do it in the spare room but the bed is higher and he cant quite manage that one. I love the puzzled look he does when he cant work out why he cant get up - it has me in stitches.
-
Mily makes me laugh when she smiles. She only does it when I've been out but it is definately a smile.
Today she pinched a bag of sugar. There was a trail from the utility room, out of the cat-flap and sugar all over the lawn. When I looked at her she had sugar all over her face.
She is always making me laugh, I love her soooooo much.
She is very in-your-face but absolutely adorable - the first Cocker I have ever owned but I am absolutely hooked!!
-
This made us laugh but also very proud that we've got such a clever girl!
When we let Trix into the garden on an evening she has worked out that, if she goes to the far side of the garden first, next door's security light comes on & illuminates our garden so that she can see to have a wee!! :005:
-
:005: :005: I love the way Harvey looks at me from around the door frame when he's stolen a sock from upstairs :005: he knows he gets a treat in exchange and stands looking at me as if to say " well where is it then!" :005: :005:
-
Cooper has a squeeky rugby ball from PAH which squeeks both when squeezed & when its reinflating (in & out!!) He goes daft squeeking it for about 1 min then the urge overtakes him & he starts howling along :005:
Also last night I was sitting thru here in the den (OK spare room!) perusing these fine pages when I heard OH, who was sitting on the couch with Cooper in the living room, exclaim "have you farted? ( :wasntme: ) You're rotten!" I was :rofl1: although wouldnt have if I'd been in the room at the time, I've experienced a few of them already :P )
Cooper likes the couch!

I was just thinking this about Ben!
He makes me laugh every day but this one comes to mind! He steals tea towels when he can and goes to the corner of the room to shred them (the naughty corner as it's now known). The other night I didn't spring to attention and swap it for a treat (this being about the 3rd time he'd nicked something) and thought he could bl**dy well have it ::)
I knew he was watching me so took no notice. He paced very slowly towards me and froze when I looked at him - I ignored him again. This time he paraded it in front of me then shot off to his corner again, convinced that I'd produce the treat as a swap :005: He seemed to realise that Mum was missing the opportunity to give a treat so up he comes and plonks it on my lap and then races out to the kitchen and waits by the 'treat' cupboard  By this time I was in stitches and gave him several of his favourite treats :D
