Hi Chaps,
It's half term and we've all just had a lovely afternoon on the south coast on a big beach walk. Both Dave and Storm got very wet and have mostly dried off on the way back. It's cold and dark but should I wash the sea water off tonight or can it wait until tomorrow? Storm wont fit in the bath (or rather I can't get her in there :005:) so it's a hose pipe outside for her and would be a full bath for Dave. I can do Dave tonight I guess, but don't really want to hose storm down with cold water outside, will the salt be bad for her if left on until tomoz?

I don't routinely wash seawater off - in fact, I often schedule a beach walk if they are beginning to hum a bit and would benefit from a rinse ;)

Yes that was a bit of a deciding factor, Storm rolled on fox poo yesterday so I opted to drive for 45 mins to the coast rather than have a fight with her and hose :005:
Well that's ok then I wasn't sure if it would irritate their skin but I'll leave them and just take them up to the lake in the forest for a fresh water bath tomorrow instead :D

I don't wash my two after we've been to the beach either and it never seems to bother their skin :D

My two were in the sea all last weekend and I only washed them today because they seemed a bit itchy and Lou had picked up a tick so used a little anti parasite shampoo, probably wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

;) I take Flo on the beach most days, she usually only paddles at the edge though ::) I don't think sea water itself is harmful, I'm always more concerned that the sand is washed off her feet as that could be an irritant!

Ben swims every day in the sea - needless to say he doesn't get bathed every day ;)
I like to think that the salt water is good for him - it heals little cuts and fleas hate it ;) Apart from one lone flea that I spotted (and it looked like a cat flea) he has had no problem from little critters :shades:
I also trek back to the beach if he finds the delightful fox poo on the way to the car as it saves me a job once we're home :005:

Feel much better now, I LOVE this site.. I'd have been feeling like a bad owner all night tonight otherwise! I'm hoping the saltwater will heal some of Storms 'undergrowth' scratches on her undercarriage too (she has no respect for her body). I'm just waiting to see if there are any repercussion's from the volume of tasty seaweed they both consumed ph34r

I do have to add that if Ben drinks seawater (I think he's learned not to) he barfs on the way back to the car! Also the tasty dead see creatures are not good for the tummy (hopefully this is something that he will learn too) :005:

We have just had a week by the sea and both dogs spent ages in there. We didn't bath them as I wasn't worried about the seawater and it didn't do them any harm.
Woofie was sick several times and had the squits after the first day but then he wised up and didn't drink it!
But I was a stupid horrible mum with poor Maddie, she had a harness on and after 3 hours in and out of the sea, the harness got covered in sand and rubbed her raw underneath her armpits. I didn't notice until the next morning after she had been licking it all night. Poor baby, she was so sore :'( I won't do that again!

When we go away in our caravan & Trix has lots of trips to the beach, she doesn't have a bath 'til we get home. The sea water seems to make her coat lovely & soft! We do keep a baby bath in the caravan & when we get back from the beach I always stand her in it & wash the sand from between her toes!

the sea makes jarv's fur very silky and soft, I'm a bad mum and rarely rinse him off ;)

Indie swims in sea water most days too and I never rinse her off, her coat seems fine with it :D

My 3 swim in the sea and salt water has never harmed them tho sometimes rolo drinks it and has a little puke on the way home.. lovely! >:(

My two are down the beach in salt water several times a week, it has never caused them any irritation and I never rinse them off, they smell lovely and fresh after a dip in the sea ;) as long as Paddy dosen't find anything to roll in on the way back to the car >:D
