Hi All,
Yesterday I came home to an open back gate and an empty back yard.
'Trying' to keep my cool I quickly got the race car out onto the streets and drove around asking anyone if they had seen two black cockers. After a couple of bum steers and one hour later I found them just around the corner from my place (I had driven past there 10 times already) and they were happily playing with another dog and its walker.
When I saw them I managed to swing the car around and pull up in the street next to them. Rommel saw me first and sprinted over for a hug and brocky casually trotted over in his style to say gday. Both tails wagging.
I then had to wrestle them back home with no leads or anything then drive around with Rommel to call off the army of kids in the area I had searching for me.
Thankfully it had a happy ending but I was pretty worried for a while. Glad they stayed together too.
Did some investigating and asked around some of the neighbours and it seems some school kids bang the fence in the back lane to set the dogs off and must have opened it. I have it padlocked today. It is impossible to open it although I can picture Rommel on Brockys shoulders reaching up to the latch in some crazy scheme.
Lucky daylight saving has just kicked in or I would have been home later and finding them two in the dark would have been impossible.
Cheers
Damian

Oh my that must have been a scary moment or two. Gkad they are both ok, and sweet that they have bonded so quickly. Make sure you keep the padlock key out of their reach :005:
-
Jeez poor you! I'd be having a nervous breakdown if mine did that. What good ickle doggies to stay together! They are bestest friends now..... ;)
-
:o OMG thank goodness you found them! :o Bet you were panicking there , I know I would have been !
Glad to hear they were both unharmed .
-
That must of been very scary for you....Glad you found them ok....it is very sweet how they stuck together.
-
Rommel has his own set of keys dont worry.
I wouldnt be surprised to come home finding the lotus parked on the wrong side of the garage with the tyres still smoking with Rommel sitting over the other side of the yard casually reading the doggy times...upside down.
-
Glad it was a happy ending and that they are both back home safe and sound.
Hope they don't find out how to escape again - hide their keys ;)

They do stick together. In fact, in a desparate attempt to win Mrs Bridges heart over that of Byron, he managed to convince Brocky to pose as a cow with Rommel milking him.
I guess this was to prove to Mrs B that he would be good on the farm...

Brill pic!!!
Glad you found them Damian ;)
-
>:D It would be a criminal offence to split them up now >:D :005:
-
Heart stopping isn't it! :o
A couple of weeks ago I stupidly left the gate open, something I never do, then blithely let the dogs out. After a time the quiet got a bit suspicious so I looked out to see the open gate >:D
Like you, I found Joy and Bracken just up the street looking very pleased with themselves "See mum, we can go for a walk by ourselves!" :P :005:
-
I cant even imagine how you must of felt when you got home. Glad you found them. :D They do look so good together. :luv:
-
poor you - how awful for you
Glad the boys behaved as 'brothers' and stuck together though
-
I dont know who followed who but I dare say Brocky was the ringleader.
Its funny about how I noticed them missing as the silence was deafening when I got home. Normally Rommel is carrying on that I have been home for almost a full minute and havent played with him yet so whats the hold up...
-
OMG i would be frantic :o
so glad you got them both and they stayed together ;)
isnt it funny how we notice it so much when they arent there
Poor wee tikes
Glad they are ok now ;)
take care :-*

The silence speaks so much with cockers...!! I have found with Monty it generally means he's up to no good :005:
I'm so glad you have them both back and they are fit and healthy. They are such a gorgeous pair...is Brocky staying for good?? :luv:

:rofl1: cracking photo! I'm glad you got them ...and that they stayed together.

OMG what a scary thing :o I would be beside myself :-\ So glad you found them fairly quickly and they were OK - little b*ggers they were probably hiding behind a dustbin the first 9 times you went past them having a right laugh - can just see them like a couple of spaniel Muttleys
Great that they stuck together though, partners in crime - now you are outnumbered it looks like they are going to lead you a merry dance ::) If they were mine they would be grounded for a week >:(

The deafening silence is very descriptive, they are like kids, remember the time you check on them to find they are drawing over everything with a felt tip (kids that is, Whistler eats felt tips.). When my two are quiet its usually knicking knickers off the line, and burying them, or digging up the veggies we had just planted.
Seriously though its the way your heart plumets when you realise they have gone, my sympathy - I bet it is something you did not need when you got home.
Glad "the lads" are fine.

My heart was in my mouth when I read the first sentence of your post.
Little b****rs. Can't really blame them though, seeing as it was due to the local kids trying to frighten them and make them bark by rattling the fences >:( . I wonder if they (the kids) realised the gate had opened and saw them get out? Hope they got a fright and ran off. Perhaps they won't be doing it again.
Good to know they didn't go far. Fern ran off when the builders here scared her after they had removed a fence panel in our back garden. I was out at work. She ran straight round to the front of the house and was found sitting by the front door apparently.

I have just remembered a time when Louis was a 'teenager'. I opened the front door and he bolted straight out and didn't stop. >:D Fortunately I live in a little cul de sac/close so he couldn't go far. It was when I heard unmerciful screams from a neighbour over the road that I realised he was in her house. The front door she had left open and Louis just let himself in. :005: I had to run in her house to get him and when i got in there she (my drama queen neighbour and 2 little girls) were stood on their settee screaming, with Louis just stood there looking at them as if to say 'so wot ya gonna do'. :D Obviously they dont like dogs, or maybe they didnt like Louis, who knows, I just got him and ran, giggling my socks off. :D
She still doesn't speak to me now. :005:

Yeah ruby got into my neighbours friends car!! To be fair the car is identical to my best friends!! OOOH >:D those norty little rascals!! bet they did nt even say "sorry!" And I bet Mulally...you had to fork out a fortune in bribes for those kids services... ;) Probably them who let em out so they could clean up in the search campaign :005:
....and for their next trick!! :shades: ph34r

What a nightmare, I am so pleased you found them safe and well. They seem to get on so well and wonderful company for each other. I hope the kids stop doing that as its not at all helpful or clever.

Sorry I know it's probably not funny for people if they have a genuine fear of dogs, but reading it I just had the image of the elephant that is always stood on the tiniest coffee table when it sees a mouse in cartoons...do you know the one I mean?? It must have been so funny to see!!
Well done Louie...in the 'rock, paper, scissors' game of life...Louie wins over drama queen neighbour!! Keep the Louie stories coming, I really love hearing them and you just know his tail is wagging now as he remembers the time he escaped too :luv: :luv:

Thank god you found them - that must've been a horrible hour! It was bad enough when we lost Bella in the woods at the weekend when we stayed with some friends - I felt worse for our friends as they were so worried and starting to think we'd never forgive them, then Little Miss Shufflebum re-appeared (looking as relieved as us, it has to be said).
Normally I always have my phone and the whistle on me (as Bella's recall is pretty much 100% for that) but we didn't this time - both were at our hosts' house - that'll teach me.... ::)

I'm so glad you managed to find them safely. Those two boys look as close as anything. :luv: :luv:
